It required them to read, follow directions and work together. They did really well and got both put together over the course of 2 different class periods. Now we will have our gardening equipment at the ready when we are outside. They had to put on their thinking caps to figure out what the inside of the plates looked like during the A Better Black Box activity. The polymer worms were a big hit! The atmospheric pressure cups and atmospheric mat brought out the competitiveness in my classes as students tried to see who could pull them apart the fastest.\r\n\r\nActivities like these give students hands-on experiences that will stay with them long after a test or even this course. Students also really like the stuffed animals that can be put on their bookbags. Teenagers really do enjoy getting tokens like this!\r\n\r\nWe color and annotate a lot so the multi-colored pens are also a big hit with students. I can't sufficiently explain how great it is to have supplies like notebooks and pencils available to my students on the first day of class. It allows us to 'hit the ground running' with our learning. High school students do enjoy coming into class to find supplies like a notebook, pencils, colored pencils and notecards waiting for them.\r\n\r\nI cut the index cards in half so we have more of them and they are easier to store. The staplers are in a central location so students can use them any time they need them. Notebooks are the lifeline of our course. Everything they need is in these notebooks! This project has been impactful all year long. First, the testing buddies were used all the time. Whether it was a plastic animal or one of the stuffed microbes, students would ask for them in advance and some kept reaching for the same buddy all year. Using them became a part of a positive routine in the classroom.\r\nThe positivity rocks turned out great! The activity provided an opportunity for students to focus on something positive and pass kindess along. They were so creative and thoughtful with their messages.
