We've been using the materials to dive into our \"Creative Creatures\" unit, where students were tasked with designing and building a new species. It was incredible to see them brainstorming ideas and then using the donated materials—everything from pipe cleaners and felt to colorful beads and googly eyes—to bring their unique creatures to life. There was one student who spent an entire morning meticulously crafting tiny scales for his dragon-like creature out of small pieces of colored paper. The level of focus and creativity was truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their eyes lit up. They literally gasped with excitement. It was like Christmas morning! They immediately started sorting through all the different textures and colors, buzzing with ideas about what they could create. The best part was seeing them share and collaborate, trading materials and giving each other feedback on their designs.\r\n\r\nThis project was just the beginning. Our next step is to use these same resources for our \"Community Heroes\" project. The students will be designing and building a model of a new building or monument for our community, thinking about how it could help others. They'll need to use their creativity and problem-solving skills to turn their ideas into a tangible design, and we're so excited to see what they come up with. The students were buzzing with excitement as we unpacked engineering kits, science tools, and headphones for our devices. One student exclaimed, \"This is like a science lab and tech lab all in one!\" Their eyes lit up, and they couldn't wait to dive in.\r\n\r\nOne of the first projects we did was a team-based bridge-building challenge. Using the new STEM kits, small groups of students worked together to design and construct bridges out of plastic connectors and flexible rods. They tested their bridges for strength and revised their designs using what they learned. It was incredible to see students who are usually hesitant to speak up take on leadership roles and collaborate so confidently.\r\n\r\nThe headphones and accessories have also helped students focus during independent learning time. Several students who struggle with distractions are now able to concentrate better during math games and reading programs, and they're making visible progress.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be starting a unit on simple machines. Students will use the STEM materials to build levers and pulleys, and we'll combine that with digital research and videos using our newly equipped devices. The combination of hands-on learning and digital support is helping all learners stay engaged, and it's opening doors for students who learn in different ways.\r\n\r\nFrom all of us—thank you for bringing energy, excitement, and opportunity into our classroom. Several students have already taken an early interest in yearbook planning, asking thoughtful questions about layouts, captions, and themes.
