We have found that some students are wanting to participate with the whole group during instruction, morning meeting, or other times on the carpet, but have had difficulty remaining in their space and keeping appropriate space with peers. These chairs have been huge in allowing students to be a part of the group (versus sitting at their desk or table away from the area) but also have room and space to wiggle, fidget, or do what they need to do while engaging. \r\n\r\nWe have noticed excitement with our students having this seating option. In preschool, there are a few students that can rotate the use of the chair. In kindergarten, it has been especially helpful for our students identified with either a developmental delay or autism who have previously had difficulties sitting in the whole group setting. \r\n\r\nI am hoping to incorporate further functional items into these classrooms to make sure our students have options regardless if they are sitting at the carpet for a whole group activity/instruction or working on a small group or independent assignment.","fullyFundedDate":1729800399636,"projectUrl":"project/functional-seating-for-our-high-energy-f/8852249/","projectTitle":"Functional Seating for Our High Energy Friends","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mauro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9788843_orig.png?crop=487,487,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727889282917","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9788843"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_1615","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":557,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":61,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":26,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.2,"schoolId":1615,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Hornets Nest Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Hornets Nest Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/charlotte-mecklenburg-school-district/hornets-nest-elementary-school/1615"}
