With the addition of sensory-supportive furnishings such as bean bag seating, weighted stuffed animals, and organized storage shelves and baskets, my classroom has transformed into a calm, structured, and welcoming environment that truly meets students' sensory and emotional needs.\r\n\r\nSince implementing these supports, I have seen a noticeable decrease in dysregulation and behavioral disruptions. Students are better able to identify when they need a sensory break and independently choose tools that help them reset and refocus. The flexible seating options have allowed students to feel physically secure and comfortable, which has significantly increased their ability to engage during therapeutic sessions and academic instruction.\r\n\r\nThe improved organization has also made a tremendous difference. Clearly defined spaces and accessible materials have reduced anxiety, supported smoother transitions, and strengthened students' executive functioning skills. My classroom now feels predictable and safe, which has helped build trust and emotional security among my students.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, my students are developing stronger emotional regulation skills and greater self-confidence. They are learning how to manage their feelings, advocate for their needs, and return to learning more quickly after challenges. We were able to explain to our students why these members of our comminuty are so important and why they deserve to be celebrated. Students enjoyed writing cards and passing out candy. This project also helped encourgae writing skills as students were asked to write encouraging notes to our veterans. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar were all key factors in their writing and boost their skills.
