With the new resources, my students got to really let their creativity run wild. They didn't just do the projects like I've seen in the past, they came up with ideas and products that even the adults, guest teachers, and experts in their field hadn't thought of before. It was amazing to be a part of. \r\n\r\nWhen they first saw the materials, especially the new tools, you could tell they were getting more ideas and they were motivated to keep building their project. The extra supplies gave them the confidence to try things they might not have tried before and no one had to fight over anything or run out of time because there weren't enough tools.\r\n\r\nStudents have been using the materials for other activities too and projects that weren't planned but that are building a good team culture and sense of belonging for them.\r\n\r\nIn this semester, students are continuing to do a similar design process by experimenting, collaborating, and seeing where their ideas can take them but with lei making instead of kapa making. While we all share a deep love for reading, teaching a text involves peeling back layers to help students build specific analytical muscles. For example, as we prepare to dive into To Kill a Mockingbird later this year, these resources will help students move beyond the plot to tackle moral courage and social perspective-taking. These texts allow us to explore complex lessons on empathy, providing a framework for students to practice critical thinking and civil discourse—skills they will carry with them far beyond the classroom walls.\r\n\r\nIn our room, reading is a vibrant, active process rather than a silent, static one. Thanks to your support, our \"reading nooks\" have become the heart of the room; you'll often find students grabbing the new reading pads to sit comfortably on the floor in small groups. This setup has completely transformed our oral literacy practice. Instead of reading at stiff desks, students lounge together on the pads, practicing reading aloud with confidence and expression. This collaborative environment turns every chapter into a shared experience, making the act of discovery something they truly look forward to each day.\r\n\r\nI have been particularly moved by a few of my more reluctant readers who have finally found their stride in this new environment. One student, who previously struggled to stay focused during independent work, is now the first to grab a reading pad and invite their peers to start a group session. Seeing their eyes light up as they gain fluency while reading aloud to their friends is a gift that wouldn't have been possible without your support. You haven't just provided books and comfort; you've provided mirrors and windows for my students to see themselves and the world more clearly.","fullyFundedDate":1759172728219,"projectUrl":"project/love-for-reading-and-writing/9758249/","projectTitle":"Love for Reading and Writing","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Cordova","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10107265"},{"teacherId":7157661,"projectId":9770838,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our STEM program!
