With additional rekenreks, more students will have access to hands-on math tools that build conceptual understanding of multiplication and division. The original success story—where one student moved from beginning to approaching grade level in just a few weeks—shows how effective these tools can be when available to every learner who needs extra support. By expanding access, this project ensures that no student is left behind due to limited materials.\r\n\r\nBeyond math, the project supports a richer, more organized, and engaging classroom. Chart paper, colorful markers, and culturally relevant books help students see themselves in their learning while strengthening literacy and communication skills. Updated supplies like headphones and lighting improve comfort and focus, and the addition of stackable bins and trays helps maintain a tidy, functional space where materials are easy to access. Altogether, this project promotes a welcoming, efficient, and inspiring learning environment that empowers students to grow academically and socially every day.","fullyFundedDate":1746786118802,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-essentials-and-supplies/9286194/","projectTitle":"Classroom Essentials and Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Wong","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7999326"},{"teacherId":8931981,"projectId":9157990,"letterContent":"I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your generous donations that provided headphones for my 1st grade classroom. Your support has made such a meaningful impact, and I wanted to share a few highlights of how your donation is helping our students learn and grow.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the new resources during our animal research unit, and the students have absolutely loved it. They're not just reading about animals—they're observing them closely through a magnetic glass and analyzing pictures to better understand each creature. The excitement on their faces when they first used the tools was unforgettable. It made reading and learning feel like an adventure!\r\n\r\nIn 4th grade, we've taken a different path of exploration—one inspired by inventors and their creations. After reading about several inventors, students are now designing and building their own marble mazes. It's been amazing to watch their creativity and problem-solving skills come to life!\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be diving even deeper into the animal research. Students will begin documenting what they observe, including the sounds their animals make and any notable behaviors. We're also using a CD player to play read-aloud stories. This is especially powerful for students who struggle with reading, as they can now hear the words and follow along in the book—building both confidence and comprehension.\r\n\r\nThank you again for bringing joy and excitement into our classroom. Our area has a significant Marshallese population. A couple of Marshallese students loved reading books about the Marshall Islands, and better yet, some of the authors were Marshallese students! In another small group, I shared the book \"Brothers in Hope\" with students from Africa. One student shared a similar background to the refugees in the book, who fled Sudan. He smiled with excitement as he saw the similarities between him and the characters in the book. They have been working with the new supplies in our table groups. The Learning Resources Gears! Gears! Gears! has students working collaboratively to create monsters, vehicles, and rainbow gears to spin plastic bears on. The MOONTOY set has students using screw drivers and wrenches to create fun robots and vehicles. The Flower Garden Building Kit is also a great hit. They work together to see how tall they can make the flowers. I have had to implement the rule that they are not allowed to touch the ceiling. :-) Table groups keep the same STEM kit for an entire week so they have time to build and create things all week. They are all so excited to share their creations that we stop 5 minutes early on Fridays so that we can do a \"gallery walk\" to see what each table group has created. They LOVE this!! \r\nI called my project Connecting, Creating, and Collaborating with Daily STEM Activities because I want my students to learn how to problem solve and work together to create things. I was amazed with what they were creating with my simple materials before, but now they are following step-by-step instructions in the manuals and helping each other to create complex structures and machines. They are so excited to rotate through all of the STEM bins. We start each day with STEM bins, and I will continue to make time for this in my busy schedule for years to come because I see the lasting value of allowing them to connect, create, and collaborate. I have worked as an intervention support teacher for the last 6 years working very hard to find things that I can use to help with regulation and deescalating students. Having the right items to offer really makes so much of a difference in support my students Social Emotional needs.\r\n\r\nThe students were very excited to see new Play-Doh colors and tools to create with. The kinetic sand was also a big hit, many students making comments about how satisfying it is to mold & shape items to then let it dissolve and fall through their fingers. Coloring has been a super way to regulate and find a calm body, the smelly markers have added another layer of resetting. Picking out the different smells and deciding which is their favorite has been a great way to use another form of their senses to refocus. The biggest hit has been the weighted blanket and weighted puppy (that has been named Harper). The weighted pressure is very grounding and helps get the body stable. Harper has been a great tool to help students giving them something to hold and focus on while walking through the building, this helps them keep their hands to themself during transitions.\r\n\r\nI want to thank you all again for taking the time to read about my role and how I support students in a non-classroom environment.
