Since receiving the stools, I have been able to facilitate numerous circles, both in my Ethnic Studies class and Advisory class. Circle topics have ranged from fun lighthearted personal and community celebrations about things that students have accomplished in their first semester of high school all the way to deeply vulnerable conversations surrounding our identities and personal dilemmas and struggles. \r\n\r\nAs a result of our community circles, we have been able to build a classroom where students genuinely listen to and share stories with one another, embodying the principles of In Lak'ech. This has served as the foundation that has allowed students to learn and grow together in an environment where they can feel safe to take risks and be vulnerable. Additionally, I've been able to share my stools with other teachers so that they could also bring the practice of community circles into their own classrooms. We were able to purchase two brand new, high-resolution cameras that we used in our latest competition. And they worked great! \r\n\r\nWe were able to send four teams a prestigious, national competition against some of the best teams in the country. Thanks to your help, we were able to place 3 of our teams in the top 5 (of 23) of their division. We also won three individual awards, two for witnesses and one for an attorney.
