These weighted bars have been an amazing addition to our fitness curriculum across 2nd-4th graders. We recently got to use these during our fitness stations, where students were individually able to benefit from the donations you provided. \r\n\r\nThe variety of weighted bars encouraged students to pick a safe challenge level based on their abilities. In PE grades 2-4, we learn about muscular strength and endurance. During these stations students got to use them for arm and leg muscle exercises. Using these bars have helped students to find ownership in their own health and fitness.\r\n\r\nAll of the skills students are learning through the use of the weighted bars, are valuable lifelong learning for all children. Overall these have been a wonderful and beneficial piece of equipment for all students at Hillcrest Elementary PE to grow and succeed! Additionally, our counselor has used the techniques used in PE to help students re-regulate their emotions throughout the day using the Yoga mats. It is so much more peaceful to start the year with everything in its place. Students entering the room at meet the teacher commented on their excitement about having somewhere to put their library books.\r\nCompared to last year, it is so much easier to put materials away! Before, when students would get workbooks from the shelf, everything else would fall over. They would feel stressed and spend excess time cleaning things up to put it back together. Alternatively, things would get put in the wrong place and we would spend time trying to find the correct books.\r\nThis year, we are off to a much faster, organized, and more peaceful experience learning our procedures since everything has a neat place. The supplies our classroom received helped my students a tremendous amount. We were able to print small group materials and other materials that were tailored to students' needs. Additionally, students were able to practice typing up essays that they had drafted in class and print them out. \r\n\r\nStudents were also able to do several art activities with the supplies we received. It was our anchor text as we investigated inventions that are meaningful to us and the brilliant minds who made them possible. We practiced skills like summarizing, identifying genre, and differentiating fact and opinion.\r\nThe tracing paper pack went to great use as we explored patterns! We examined attributes of 2D and 3D shapes, and tied that into architecture. We built our own stained glass window patterns and emulated them on the tracing paper. These are still hanging up in our classroom window, catching all of the spring sunlight!\r\nOur next step is to put the poster board to use for showing what we know as we get excited about the culinary world and different food around the world!\r\nI am so grateful for your support in making this possible for my class this year.
