When my students witnessed me unwrapping the pickleball paddles and saw all of the balls and amazing net, they became so excited that they were going to learn how to play! Several of them have watched their parents play, but have never played themselves. I let them handle the paddles, hit balls against the wall just to get a feel for it, and set the net up so they could practice hitting over the net. They absolutely loved it! \r\n We are going over the court layout during class, talking about rules, and getting an idea of how the game is played. With the lower grades, we are simply practicing hitting the ball and getting it close to target. In the upper level classes, we are learning how to serve, how to keep score, and talking about simple strategies used in the game. \r\n There is discussion among the coaches in our district that we need to turn one of our tennis courts into two pickleball courts so that we can provide an opportunity for our community to enjoy the sport with their students as they learn the game of pickleball. Nothing would thrill me more than to see their learning enjoyed with their families and friends as they enjoy a game that promotes an incredibly fun life-long activity!
