With your support, we've been able to expand our classroom library to include a wonderful collection of books, from Percy Jackson and the Olympians to The Hunger Games series, and graphic novels like The Odyssey and The Kite Runner. These new texts have introduced my students to a wide variety of genres and themes, and have truly ignited a love of reading in many of them.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom has become a dynamic experience where students are not only reading for enjoyment but also developing critical skills that will support their academic success across all subjects. The texts have introduced important lessons in empathy, resilience, and self-reflection. For instance, The Fault in Our Stars and Born a Crime have prompted rich discussions about identity, overcoming adversity, and understanding diverse life experiences. Graphic novels, like The Odyssey: A Graphic Novel and The Lightning Thief, offer visual support that helps make complex ideas and narratives more accessible, allowing students to engage with the material in a way that supports both their academic and emotional development.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading looks like a blend of individual exploration and group discussion. Students are given time to read independently, but we also come together to discuss the themes and characters we're encountering in the books. This has sparked great conversation, with students often sharing their thoughts and reflections on the characters' journeys and how they relate to their own experiences. It's incredible to see them not only enjoying the books but also analyzing them deeply.\r\n\r\nParticular students have really come alive with the new books, especially those who had previously struggled with reading. For example, one of my students, who has always been hesitant about reading, has found herself captivated by Percy Jackson and the Olympians. She's been carrying the books with her wherever she goes, and I've seen her newfound excitement for reading help her tackle difficult texts in other subjects. Another student, who loves to explore history and personal stories, has been particularly drawn to The Kite Runner and Born a Crime, sharing insights and relating themes to current events and our classroom discussions on social justice.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donations, my students are now surrounded by books that not only foster their love of reading but also encourage them to think critically and deeply. The impact is already clear, and I can't wait to see how these texts continue to shape their growth as readers and thinkers.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generosity in making this possible. Your support is helping my students develop skills that will last a lifetime.","fullyFundedDate":1728055474391,"projectUrl":"project/diverse-and-inclusive-classroom-library/8812832/","projectTitle":"Diverse and Inclusive Classroom Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ariel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9629905"},{"teacherId":9629905,"projectId":8564826,"letterContent":"I am so grateful for your support in helping me bring valuable resources to my classroom. Thanks to your generous donations, my students now have access to various materials that support their academic growth and emotional well-being.\r\n\r\nOne of the first items my students noticed was the Sensory Fidget Toys Set, which has been incredibly helpful for students who need extra support in staying focused during lessons. I've seen firsthand how these tools are helping students manage their stress and remain engaged in class activities. For example, during our group project on building a math portfolio, students used the fidget toys to channel their energy, which allowed them to stay on task and contribute to their teams more effectively.\r\n\r\nAnother big hit were the Everyone is Welcome Diversity Mini Bulletin Board and the Calming Colors Paper Flowers, which we used to brighten our classroom. The students were excited to see the space transform into one that reflects inclusivity and welcomes everyone. It's been wonderful to see the positive energy these decorations have brought to the room, making it feel like a safe and engaging place for all students to thrive.\r\n\r\nAs for the next steps in our current lesson, we are diving into goal-setting and self-advocacy, especially when it comes to IEPs. The decorations will help us remember the importance of inclusion and creating a supportive learning environment.\r\n\r\nYour contributions are making a lasting impact in my students' learning and personal development, and I can't thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1726691338185,"projectUrl":"project/first-year-sped-teacher/8564826/","projectTitle":"First Year SPED Teacher","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ariel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9629905"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_104272","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":507,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":64,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":77,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"21.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":58.3,"schoolId":104272,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Northeast Early College on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Northeast Early College","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/denver-public-school-district-1/high-tech-early-college/104272"}
