I have one student who started using the talker to communicate with me. As a non-speaking student, he is able to tell me: \"I am hungry\", and \"no\" when I present him with a non-preferred choice of food. This has made it easier for us to understand each other! The programmed buttons are also really nice for communicating things like: \"I need a break\" and \"I need some help with this.\" I also wanted to say thank you for funding some classroom decor and furniture where they are enjoying the jellyfish in our new lamp as well as our floor seating when we have quiet time (I will add a picture of the orange chair donated). \r\n\r\nThe students vocal approximations are also growing, as they listen to repeated phrases on the talker and attempt to make the beginning sounds. We also love to read our black history books. We started today with Barack Obama, learning about his first term in office. When we come back to school, we are going to learn what he did for us in his second term of office. We thank you so much for this valuable donation. As a new teacher, this was an incredible gift for my students as these books are shiny, new, colorful and many of the books I inherited are old books from schools that might be a little tarnished, not as colorful, maybe even missing pages. We really enjoy our quiet reading time now.
