My students don't share well, so they each get their own tray, and thus far, if they are out of a color, they have to pick something else. This week, we made tropical birds with handprint feathers to celebrate the Caribbean. Having a variety of construction paper available to us makes learning about different cultures and artists much more hands-on.\r\n\r\nWhen I first opened the box and started pulling out the packages of construction paper, my students were right there at my shoulder, looking. We looked at all the colors and started naming them. Everyone was so excited. After lunch, I bag up the food, and my kids put the layers on the trays so we can dehydrate them overnight. In the mornings, the students put the veggies in the bags so we can take them to the shelter for snacks for the animals. So much better than wasting all of that food. Now I wish we had some way of repurposing the chocolate milks that end up getting thrown away.\r\nThank you so much for providing this opportunity for my students as well as the snacks for the animals. We get free water, and having sugar free mixes to make that water sweet and delicious not only helped me keep them hydrated in the Las Vegas heat but gave them options to choose from to practice typing on their AAC device. These devices have both pictures and keyboards, and typing flavor names and then hearing them out loud AND getting a sweet treat was such a joy for my students. My students love getting the chance to play outside with the items. They use the balls and the hula hoops the most. They play catch, kickball, and DIY cornhole. We made a DIY cornhole game by laying hula hoops out and throwing bean bags into them. This gives my students activities to do outside that get their blood pumping and heart racing. It's great for both physical fitness and mental health. Students with ADHD benefit from time outside to get the sillies out and stretch their bodies so that when they need to focus on academics- they can!
