Share a specific classroom project or moment.\r\nThe students absolutely love the new wooden shape blocks! One of our recent classroom projects focused on identifying and exploring 3D shapes. In this photo, one of my students proudly displayed a long pattern of shapes he created during free play. This activity supported our geometry unit and helped reinforce shape recognition, fine motor skills, and spatial awareness. It was amazing to see how he took the initiative to line them up carefully and with intention!\r\n\r\nHow did your students react when they first saw the materials?\r\nThey were so excited! The moment the blocks were unboxed, the children gravitated toward them with curiosity and joy. For many, it was their first time engaging with open-ended materials like these, and they immediately began stacking, lining up, and naming the shapes. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and it sparked a lot of creative and cooperative play.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students on a current classroom lesson or project?\r\nNext, we're expanding on this activity by introducing sorting and classifying games using the blocks. Students will sort shapes by attributes (such as number of sides or type of shape), then graph their results. We also plan to incorporate these materials into storytelling and dramatic play, using the blocks as props to build scenes from their favorite books. This will further enhance their language and cognitive development while continuing to explore geometry in a meaningful, hands-on way","fullyFundedDate":1744678376821,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-nature-to-play-outdoor-learni/9063662/","projectTitle":"\"Bringing Nature to Play: Outdoor Learning for Curious Minds\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bethanie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8706393_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y376&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737337596077","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8706393"},{"teacherId":7197989,"projectId":8834143,"letterContent":"Thank you again for the donation so that I could purchase the games and fun activities for my students. I teach all classes in my school, grades K-5, which is approximately 230 kids a week! One of the most important things that I want to teach them are the skills to work and play cooperatively with others. Interpersonal relationships are key to happiness and growth. \r\n\r\nSo far my students have had an opportunity to work together to complete the Solar System puzzle and they have played Don't Tip the Waiter and have found that it's not as easy as it seems! Students have also enjoyed the Magnetic Tiles and building pieces that you see in the pictures. I have seen a range of emotions from super excited to super frustrated. Every emotion is important and we have been able to discuss coping strategies to manage the frustrations. I have also seen students take a break when needed and some students are able to encourage their fellow classmates during some of the frustrating feelings. We will continue to learn through these valuable experiences!!","fullyFundedDate":1733267097505,"projectUrl":"project/plays-well-with-others/8834143/","projectTitle":"Plays Well With Others!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ormond","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7197989_orig.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1603728253625","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7197989"},{"teacherId":8706393,"projectId":8290248,"letterContent":"The color-changing light table has quickly become a favorite in our Pre-K classroom! They're always amazed to see how colors mix and change, and it sparks so many \"oohs\" and \"aahs\" as they experiment. Whether they're stacking blocks or just watching the lights shift, it's incredible to see how engaged and curious they are. My students and I have been using them in all sorts of hands-on activities, and it's been amazing to see their curiosity grow. One of our favorite projects so far has been a sensory exploration station using the Bead, Sand, and Water Sensory Blocks and Sand Art Liquid Motion. We paired them with the Lakeshore Light Table Manipulative Center, and the kids were fascinated by how the colors and textures changed when the light hit them. We also explored the concept of density with the Sink or Float Discovery Kit, which led to some great discussions about why certain objects behave differently in water. These activities have been a fantastic way to make science come alive in a fun and interactive way.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students could barely contain their excitement. They couldn't wait to open the boxes and start exploring. The Fun and Colorful Dumbbell for Kids quickly became a favorite for movement breaks—it's such a fun way for them to get active and build their strength. Next, we're planning a group storytelling project using the sensory blocks and light table. The kids will create visual stories inspired by the materials, and I can't wait to see their imaginations at work. These resources have completely transformed our learning space, and I'm so grateful for how they've sparked joy and curiosity in my students.","fullyFundedDate":1708292885277,"projectUrl":"project/science-water-manipulatives-for-ec-pre-/8137957/","projectTitle":"Science/ Water Manipulatives for EC Pre-K","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bethanie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8706393_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y376&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737337596077","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8706393"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2560","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":243,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":93,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":22,"percentWhite":38,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":45.0,"schoolId":2560,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Havelock Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Havelock Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/craven-county-school-district/havelock-elementary-school/2560"}
