I teach in an urban charter school. Many of the students are coming from low income homes, their parents are very young and many are not being raised by mom or dad but by another family member. I have students that live in shelters or with other family members where there is not room for everyone. Being a charter school our funding is limited and a lot of the supplies that we need for daily teaching are bought by us the teachers because if we don't buy them ourselves we won't have what we need to properly teach our scholars. My students are very eager to learn and just want attention and to know that they are cared about because many of them are not getting that from home. Not only am I teacher for them but I am someone that cares for them and looks out for them.
