As a result of your generosity, my Special Education classroom now has flexible seating options that have truly transformed the learning environment for my students. \r\n\r\nThe floor seating has been a game-changer in how my students enter the classroom and settle into our routine before instruction begins. The floor seating is part of our reading area, which has been a very welcoming and calming space for my students who struggle sit in a chair for a full 52 minute class period. All my students have IEP's and face challenges such as ADHD, dyslexia, and other specific learning disabilities. It has allowed my students to have space to self-regulate, which allows them to be more engaged in their participation in our reading instruction group work.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new seating, they were curious as most middle school students are, but quickly made themselves comfortable and tested out the new reading space. It was heartwarming to see how quickly they adapted, with many expressing that they felt more comfortable and relieved to have a space to decompress allowing a smooth transition to the lesson readiness to learn. \r\n\r\nThe chair bands have allowed sturdy foot support and movement for my fidgety students during the reading lesson at our tables. As the teacher, my favorite thing about the bands on the chairs is that they are not noisy or sliding off due to their frequent movement. It has allowed for better focus and learning during reading instruction. \r\n\r\nThe timers have provided a visual for my students through the 52 minutes to know how much longer each part of the lesson will take, before they are given periodic breaks. The timers have also made transitioning from one activity to another much more smoothly. \r\n\r\nYour contribution has given my students far more than just furniture, timers, and focus tools but rather a more supportive learning space that respects their individual needs and helps them thrive to their highest potential. Thank you for making a difference in their education and lives and allowing me to create a safe space for them at school when they enter my room.","fullyFundedDate":1748961865413,"projectUrl":"project/feel-the-flexibility/9392469/","projectTitle":"Feel the Flexibility!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Leon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10048832_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1748912246394","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10048832"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_59122","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1127,"numTeachers":57,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":92,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"19.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":78.0,"schoolId":59122,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Harden Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Harden Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/salinas-union-high-school-district/harden-middle-school/59122"}
