This year, I have more students than ever who communicate using AAC devices, or \"talkers,\" and many of my students have significant communication and support needs.\r\n\r\nThe cause-and-effect toys and tangible objects have already made such a difference in our speech sessions. They are AMAZING at capturing attention and keeping students engaged while we work on requesting, making choices, and communicating wants and needs. For other students, they provide opportunities to work on answering questions, vocabulary, and descriptive language. Having motivating, hands-on materials gives my students a reason to communicate and practice these skills in a meaningful way.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw some of the new materials, their excitement was immediate! The Mystery Object Box has been a particular favorite. My students love the surprise of discovering what is inside, and I personally love how versatile it is. I can adapt it to different students, goals, and activities, making it a resource I know we will continue to use in many different ways.\r\n\r\nI'm excited to continue using these resources and finding new ways to connect them to each student's communication goals. Thank you for helping me create more opportunities for my students to engage, communicate, and show what they can do. I started creating speech goody bags when many of my students were too afraid to go trick-or-treating last year, when ICE detentions were happening on a more massive scale in our community. My students were so excited to still receive Halloween goodies, even if they weren't able to trick-or-treat. Seeing their joy inspired me to continue this tradition for Christmas/winter break, Valentine's Day, and the end of the school year as a way to celebrate their progress and hard work.\r\n\r\nThese goody bags have become one small way I can remind my students that they are cared for and celebrated. Last Valentine's Day, I gave them heart-shaped fidget keychains, and so many students clipped them to their backpacks and carried them every day. Seeing those little hearts at arrival and dismissal was such a sweet reminder of how much a small gesture can mean when it lets a child know that their teacher cares and wants to do a little something extra to make them smile.\r\n\r\nLast year, I paid for these items out of my own pocket, with additional resources donated by my family, so your generosity means so much. I cannot wait to create their Halloween treat bags this year! Because of you, I was able to choose higher-quality toys and fidgets, a much greater variety of fun items, and plenty of snacks and treats my students will love.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me continue this special tradition and giving my students something to look forward to.
