The fidget toys were intended to help the youngest of our students keep their hands and bodies busy so everyone can enjoy the read aloud (an important part of their weekly library visit!). However, introducing the toys invited a bit more chaos than I anticipated for the younger kids!\r\n\r\nInstead, I have been using the toys as incentives for the older students to submit book reports, which has been very popular. With a short weekly visit, students often \"judge a book by its cover\" and bypass some really wonderful chapter books. Peer reviews are a great way to broaden students' horizons, and the reviewers are so motivated by the fidget toy incentives, that they are often choosing new books to review that they may not have picked up before! Thank you again for your generosity and I'm very grateful for the donations.","fullyFundedDate":1755757309528,"projectUrl":"project/storytime-success-for-the-littlest-libra/9587651/","projectTitle":"Storytime Success for the Littlest Library Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Leigh","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5985737"},{"teacherId":8600617,"projectId":9609743,"letterContent":"A HUGE thank you for donating to my class project! My students were so incredibly excited to see all of the new games. With your help, my students are now practicing key social-emotional skills, such as problem-solving, taking turns, and showing empathy/compassion, in a low-stress and fun way. I have seen students become more inclusive of their peers and enjoy each other's company, rather than arguing over a game on a screen, and it has made a significant difference in our classroom community. \r\n\r\n We have \"Class Senate\" in my class, where students are able to bring up \"bills\" they would like the class to pass to make our classroom a better place. This fosters a sense of democracy and responsibility in our class, as students feel they have a larger stake in what is going on within our classroom. During our class senate sessions the past couple of weeks, students have been submitting proposals on getting even more games for the class, and have even discussed promoting a \"game donation drive\" for families to get rid of old board games and give them to classes who want them at the school. Students have also discussed how nice it is that it doesn't get too loud during our Friday Free Time and that our classroom feels safer and more comfortable when students can talk to and play with each other face to face rather than over a screen.\r\n\r\nIt has been incredible to see what a difference physical games can make, and that difference would not have been made without all of you!","fullyFundedDate":1755757115196,"projectUrl":"project/friday-free-time-with-no-screens-no-pro/9609743/","projectTitle":"Friday Free Time With No Screens?
