Distance learning during this pandemic has been challenging on every level. Teaching in such a diverse district and school often means that the equity gap around access to and use of technology is leaving our most vulnerable students behind. As a teacher working from home, it's essential that I have the tools I need to present content, meet with small groups and plan and prepare materials and lessons in a way that is both accessible for all students and highly engaging. My first graders will benefit greatly from the enhanced camera features on the Microsoft Surface Laptop 3. As we are writing stories together, decoding tricky words and solving number strings, they will really feel like they are in the same room with me and be able to see explicit modeling taking place. The increased memory and processing power of this laptop would enable me to significantly upgrade the quality and engagement of my online teaching, which is particularly challenging with younger learners. I am looking forward to smoother and lag-free, live Zoom meetings, editing prerecorded video lessons for a cleaner look and having access to a multitude of digital tools.
