Before long their creativity and curiosity take over and they are inventing new types of creatures, too.\r\n\r\nThey have also started to make connections with their own anatomy. For example, a first grade student was building a creature and he commented that it didn't \"look right.\" He touched his own neck, then his face lit up as he added another \"backbone\" section between the head and shoulders.\r\n\r\nHaving these materials in our classroom will provide so many opportunities for students to authentically engage with their passions. I was deeply moved by how quickly your contributions allowed us to fulfill the project goal. The smocks arrived within just a couple of weeks of receiving your donations and students began using them right away!\r\n\r\nThis classroom set of smocks made an immediate and visible impact in our art room. Students in every grade use the smocks often, during each art class period, every day of the week. The smocks hang around the art room on multiple hooks set at child-height, so that any student can use one without needing to wait in line or ask for teacher permission. Because the smocks are identical in color and quality, there is no hesitation or arguing over choosing them. Students happily incorporated the smocks into their artmaking routines without missing a beat.\r\n\r\nWe dove into a painting unit as soon as the smocks arrived. The classroom was full of energy and excitement as students painted on paper and canvas using acrylics and watercolors. They were visibly surprised and proud of what they were able to make; it was a joy to be there to witness their discoveries. Now, we are beginning a clay unit. For some students, this is their very first time touching clay! They are able to so freely and comfortably, knowing that their clothes are protected by their smocks as they discover a new material and skill. Thanks to you, this can happen over and over, for hundreds of children.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for supporting my students and empowering them to express themselves artistically.
