We've incorporated them into small-group instruction and independent practice, allowing students to engage more meaningfully with the content. One especially memorable moment was during a recent lesson when students were able to explain their thinking using the materials—something many of them previously struggled to do. The resources helped make abstract concepts more concrete, and I could see students making connections in real time.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement in the classroom was immediate. Students were eager to explore and asked thoughtful questions about how we would use them. Several students who are typically hesitant to participate were noticeably more engaged, raising their hands and volunteering to try new strategies. Seeing their enthusiasm and curiosity reminded me how powerful the right tools can be in creating an inclusive and motivating learning environment.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to support our current lessons as students work toward mastering key skills and applying them in more complex tasks. We are now using them to reinforce learning through collaborative activities and problem-solving challenges, helping students build both academic skills and confidence. Your investment in our classroom helps bring science to life in ways that would not be possible without you.\r\n\r\nWe will begin using these books in just two weeks as part of our upcoming unit of study on Earth's atmosphere, weather, and climate. The texts will serve as a foundational source of knowledge, giving students shared language, concepts, and examples that they can return to throughout the unit as their understanding grows.\r\n\r\nI also used these books while designing the unit itself, ensuring that lessons, discussions, and activities are closely aligned with the content and ideas students will encounter in the texts. This approach allows students to build their knowledge step by step, using the books as reliable references as they deepen their understanding of how weather and climate shape our world.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our students and supporting their curiosity about science. Having the addition of this new choir classroom library of singer biographies has been wonderful for my students. They have loved reading books about some of their favorite singers and musicians. After reading their chosen book, they complete a singer biography report paper to contribute to the class biography file. Then they read each other's biography book reports and write reaction comments to each other. If they like what their peer wrote, then they can go get that book to read next.\r\n\r\nDoing biography projects and learning about famous composers in music history is an important unit in our curriculum each year. But my students have been so much more engaged this year with the addition of this mini-unit on modern performing artists. They were excited that they were able to choose who they wanted to read about and report on, especially when they could choose from a diverse group of musicians who looked like them. It's also so great to now have a variety of books at varying reading levels for my students to choose from, so that their reading proficiency level doesn't limit their access to engaging reading material. I have many students whose first language is not English, and there are other struggling readers in my classes as well. These donated books have made this project fun and accessible to all my students while helping them improve their reading skills and motivating them to read more!","fullyFundedDate":1758123777809,"projectUrl":"project/voices-of-history-diverse-biographies/9688921/","projectTitle":"“Voices of History: Diverse Biographies for Our Choir Classroom”","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sayler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10243932"},{"teacherId":10165114,"projectId":9583566,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom! Because of you, my students now have composition notebooks for math journals, cushions that allow for flexible seating, and colorful posters that bring both academic content and beauty to our learning space.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been both immediate and ongoing: students regularly reference the wall posters during lessons and independent work, using tools like division charts to help them access grade-level content with confidence. These visual supports have been especially helpful for students with learning differences, as well as my English language learners!\r\n\r\nOne moment that truly surprised and impressed me was watching a student (who has historically struggled in math) successfully use the division charts to solve complex, grade-level aligned order-of-operations problems -- in fact, he finished first in a class of 23 students, and solved every single question perfectly! Another sweet moment: after I put a Fibonacci spiral poster on my door, a girl asked me to explain the history of the Fibonacci sequence and the golden ratio in class. There's something so beautiful about watching students realize that math does not exist in isolation within the classroom, but is instead connected to an ancient history bridging time periods and cultures.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create a classroom environment where all students feel supported, capable, and engaged.
