The microphones, headsets, and recording tools have allowed my third graders to create their own short vlogs and podcast-style book reviews. Instead of simply reading quietly or completing worksheets, students are actively talking about books, summarizing what they read, and recommending titles to others. This process strengthens their reading comprehension, speaking skills, and confidence all at once. Technology has become a tool for communication, creativity, and connection—not just consumption.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is having a real audience. They love knowing that their voices can be heard by classmates, younger students, and even their families. Recording their reviews feels special and important to them. Students who were once hesitant to participate are now eager to take turns using the microphone, practicing what they want to say, and asking to record again to improve their work. It has truly changed how they view reading—they now see it as something to share, not just complete.\r\n\r\nI have especially seen growth in some of my quieter and struggling readers. One student who rarely volunteered to speak now confidently records book reviews with a partner, while another student who struggled with comprehension is showing improvement by clearly explaining stories in their recordings. These moments have been powerful. Your support has helped my students find their voices, build confidence, and experience reading as something meaningful and exciting. Thank you for making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1765909765909,"projectUrl":"project/booktok-jr-our-student-led-literacy-re/9951198/","projectTitle":"BookTok Jr.: Our Student-Led Literacy Recording Studio","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Danner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7560666_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724628579016","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/leslie-danner"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_50540","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":435,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":81,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":62,"percentWhite":20,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":56.8,"schoolId":50540,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Garrett Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Garrett Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/richmond-county-school-system/garrett-elementary-school/50540"}
