Scholastic News is consistently high-interest, and my students eagerly flip through the pages the moment it's handed out. The online portion has been an especially big hit! Its engaging videos help build vital background knowledge and spark curiosity before we even begin reading the articles.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, I love that the subscription comes with supplemental materials that help us break up parts of our typical curriculum, which can be rigorous and challenging. These resources allow us to explore concepts in fresh, accessible ways and give students opportunities to practice annotating and identifying nonfiction text features in a format they truly enjoy.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your donation is helping students make meaningful connections beyond the classroom. They are taking what they learn and applying it to real-world situations. Recently, two students used Scholastic News as a research tool to create a special segment honoring Native Americans for our school announcements—an inspiring example of how these materials empower them to think critically and contribute thoughtfully to our school community.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for investing in our students. The 5th grade students in my class have had fun helping me learn how to use it, that's for sure! \r\n I first used the ipad in my coaching role at the middle school. I recorded players shooting form and was able to coach them on stance, form and technique. I used an interactive web site that was a re-creation of a 'coach whiteboard' for diagramming plays, planning plays and ideas, and teaching player positions. I was also able to easily access player data/phone #'s/and record attendance through the ipad being linked to our school district's database. The ipad was so much easier to have for these features- before the ipad I was using my bulky and cumbersome laptop. \r\n In my 5th grade classroom I have been able to use the ipad with students to record different assignments/work projects. Knowing that they will see themselves in video encourages them to work hard and be detailed. The ipad has also been used as a link to the public library for ebooks and audiobooks. \r\n I am continuing to learn all that this ipad will allow me to do in my classroom. One thing is for sure- when I bring out the ipad the students really get excited!\r\n Thank you for your donation to my classroom project.
