These class sets allow my students the resources needed to engage in a novel study unit. With these texts, students are given an alternate route to covering the standards of their unit. This particular novel is also able to connect various forms of media in the form of movies and graphic novels. \r\n\r\nStudents have been using this novel to learn about writing style and understanding concepts like foreshadowing; the importance of tension, suspense and tone; connection to events throughout history and today. \r\n\r\nReading takes many forms in my classroom. Whether it be independent, group, or read-alouds, students are constantly engaged through notes, questions, and discussions. Novels allow a much broader discussion and for students to really think about the story and connecting themes. \r\n\r\nOverally, students are really enjoying the novel. The Outsiders is one of the classics I strive to teach about each year (or at least talk about each year!) because it gives students a glimpse into teen life from the 1960s. Throughout this novel it gives them the chance to see a character grow and experience hardships of different variety. I find students are able to relate and love being able to meet all these great characters.\r\n\r\nThis was the first novel study of the year for my 8th grade students. A lot of them were reluctant to read or did not even enjoy reading. As we learned more of Ponyboy and his story, the students took a larger interest. I believe it is a novel that shows teenagers all experience very similar situations or can relate to these characters in some way. After finishing the novel, the students really enjoyed it (and of course, a fun comparison of the novel to the film).\r\n\r\nWe appreciate your donation and thank you for bringing the opportunity to enjoy this novel to our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1764598437355,"projectUrl":"project/the-outsiders-novel-study/9864650/","projectTitle":"The Outsiders Novel Study","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Baker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10296768"},{"teacherId":9452048,"projectId":9459126,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your incredible generosity in funding our project for new art supplies. Your support has brought a vibrant new energy into our classroom that is truly wonderful to witness.\r\n\r\nFueling Creativity and Inspiration\r\nSince the arrival of these materials, the atmosphere in our room has completely transformed. These weren't just \"supplies\" to my students—they were the keys to unlocking their imaginations. We have seen a surge in engagement and a \"next level\" drive; the kids aren't just doodling, they are creating with a sense of pride and purpose that is inspiring to watch.\r\n\r\nMasterpieces in the Making\r\nWith your help, our students have already begun two major projects that have pushed their technical skills and personal expression:\r\n\r\nGeorgia O'Keeffe Inspired Florals: Using the vibrant pigments and brushes you provided, students are exploring the beauty of nature on a grand scale. They are learning to zoom in on details and use color blending to create the bold, flowing compositions O'Keeffe is known for.\r\n\r\n\"Life Pillars\" on Wood Substrates: This has been a powerful exercise in identity. Using the sturdy wood block substrates, students are constructing \"Life Pillars\" that represent their personal values and strengths. Working on a 3D wood surface has challenged them to think about art from every angle and has given their work a permanent, professional feel.\r\n\r\nA Heartfelt Thank You\r\nI cannot thank you enough for choosing to invest in my students' futures. In a world where arts funding can be difficult to secure, your decision to provide these critical resources means everything to us.\r\n\r\nPlease know that you haven't just provided materials; you have provided hope and a creative outlet. I truly believe that kind-hearted people like you make the world a better place. I hope you have an excellent life—you truly deserve it for the impact you've made on these young lives.","fullyFundedDate":1754757066895,"projectUrl":"project/fln-arts/9459126/","projectTitle":"FLN Arts","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Julio Martinez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9452048_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755687339126","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9452048"},{"teacherId":10296768,"projectId":9783256,"letterContent":"Thank you again for the wonderful donation to the classroom. These binders have been a great boon to everyone. Students have been keeping their notes, worksheets, and other materials in these binders for safe-keeping while also slowly piecing together a portfolio.\r\nWhen students first saw these on the shelf, many were curious about them. \"What are these for?\" or \"who will be using these?\" were some of the quotes. \r\n\r\nWhen told these were donated, many students were shocked. Students were grateful for the donation and as of now, students have taken the opportunity to personalize their binders with art and other drawings. It means a lot to me, and my students that many great people donated to this cause. Currently, students are keeping their notes in these while working on a novel unit for \"The Call of the Wild\" by Jack London. \r\n\r\nThese binders are a major improvement over the folders previously used. Students receive many handouts throughout a novel unit, so binders provide a more organized system and help keep students on track for the notes and assignments. As they wrap up this unit they will continue to gather artefacts and other resources for their portfolio, and hopefully organize another collection of novel unit essays. \r\n\r\nAgain, I am in awe of the support of wonderful people, and I cannot thank you enough for this donation.
