The puzzles have become a meaningful extension of the learning happening throughout the year, reinforcing concepts from our academic units in a joyful, hands-on way.\r\n\r\nThe classroom loom has already become a gathering place where students collaborate and create. It's strengthening fine motor skills while also building community—kids sit together, talk together, and make something beautiful together. It has sparked new conversations about patterns, texture, and art, and has given some quieter students a peaceful way to connect with classmates.\r\n\r\nThe calming carpet has transformed our designated peace corner into a true safe space. Students now use it to take mindful moments when their emotions feel heavy. It's been powerful to watch children grow comfortable naming their feelings and choosing strategies to find calm. Alongside it, the shadow box has become a treasured display where students carefully place objects they find meaningful—tiny collections that tell big stories.\r\n\r\nThese items are more than just classroom tools—they're pieces of each child's personal learning puzzle. They support social-emotional growth, strengthen academic skills, and help us build the kind, supportive community we strive for every day.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are learning not only how to read and solve problems, but also how to take care of themselves and each other. Next, we'll be using our puzzles during upcoming science and literacy units, and students will begin creating seasonal woven art for display. Our calming corner will continue to evolve as students learn new emotional regulation strategies.\r\n\r\nThank you for making such a meaningful difference in our classroom. As you can see from the photos, the posters are up, books in the small library and identification guides organized. The students absolutely love having access to the guides, as they are naturally curious about the living being in the woods outside of school and in their backyards. The classroom is really coming together, as I create systems of positive feedback, including but not limited to use of the new science tools. The posters also add a welcoming feel to the room reminding students of all the wonderful things we get to look for outside the walls of the classroom on our adventures. Thank you as well for the books that center inclusivity. It is special to have an Environmental Literacy class like this in a public school, let alone with a population of students who come from such diverse backgrounds. This class aims to inspire a curiosity about natural science and the great outdoors with our students. \r\n\r\nIt is no small thing that you chose to support us in these efforts of educating our students to be committed citizens of the earth. I wish I could show you the 300 Nature Journals from this year so far, where students have drawn and written all sorts of observations from nature as the seasons are passing. They have used the identification guides funded by this project to help them understand the flora and fauna of Maine even better. In addition, many students love the freedom to practice drawing ideas in their sketchbooks. Many initial concepts have originated in the sketchbooks where students have autonomy over their creative expression. \r\n\r\nStudent learning is impacted by these resources because students now have greater autonomy and ownership over their creative work in art.
