Including books in our classroom library on various topics such as but not limited to; social justice, immigration, culture, neurodiversity, advocacy, inclusivity, intergenerational relationships, gender, and social and emotional learning will help my students to begin forming an accurate depiction of the world around them through the voices and lived experiences of others. Access to positive representation in books in a child's classroom is invaluable. My students will have daily access to these books throughout their school day through choice, intentional lessons and celebrations of appreciation for differences and similarities. It is incredibly important to me to give my students a strong foundation of acceptance for who they are as individuals and for people in their community.
