Thanks to this project, my students now have a dedicated space where they can experience hands-on learning, explore life science concepts in real time, and connect with nature in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nStudents who once struggled to stay engaged in traditional lessons are now eagerly stepping outside to observe plant growth, test soil, track data, and care for the garden beds. It has transformed the way they see science—not as something in a textbook, but as something alive, growing, and directly influenced by their actions.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, the garden has created a sense of pride and ownership. Students feel responsible for nurturing the space, and they are excited to share what they've learned with their families and our school community. Many have expressed how calming it is to work in the garden and how much they enjoy having a space to explore and get their hands dirty.\r\n\r\nThis project has also strengthened our connection to the community. Families, staff, and volunteers have stopped by to help plant, water, and care for the space. The garden has become a shared project—one that brings people together and offers fresh opportunities for learning, teamwork, and wellness.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our students now have a space that inspires curiosity, responsibility, and collaboration. This garden will continue to grow for years to come, giving future students the chance to learn through experience and to feel the joy of watching something they planted thrive.\r\n\r\nThank you for planting the seeds—both in the soil and in the minds of our students.","fullyFundedDate":1746647737627,"projectUrl":"project/community-garden/9300376/","projectTitle":"Community Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Araiza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3746012_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1470962843592","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/araiza5thgrade"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_8802","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":621,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":98,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"18.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.5,"schoolId":8802,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Marcia R Garza Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Marcia R Garza Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/pharr-san-juan-alamo-independent-school-district/franklin-elementary-school/8802"}
