This technology has made a huge impact on how my students learn. Instead of only reading about concepts or seeing them in pictures, students are now able to design and create real, physical objects. This hands-on experience has helped them better understand problem-solving, measurement, and design. It has also encouraged creativity, as students can turn their ideas into something they can actually hold and test.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for students has been watching their designs come to life on the 3D printer materials. They are fully engaged from start to finish—planning, designing, and then seeing the final product printed layer by layer. This process has sparked curiosity and motivation, even among students who are typically less interested in traditional assignments. Many students have taken extra pride in their work, carefully thinking through their designs and making improvements when something doesn't go as planned.\r\n\r\nI have also noticed that some of my quieter or more hesitant learners have really connected with this technology. Students who may struggle with writing or verbal expression have found a new way to share their ideas through design. The 3D printer has given them confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Moving forward, we are excited to continue using this technology for projects that connect to math, science, and real-world problem-solving. Because of you, we received two piano keyboards, a steel drum, a ukulele, and books about careers. These materials have made a huge difference in our 6–8 autism classroom. We are already using the instruments during our music and life skills lessons, where students explore sounds, practice following directions, and build confidence through hands-on learning. The career books are helping us start meaningful conversations about future goals and different types of jobs.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the instruments, their excitement was immediate and genuine. Many of them were eager to try each one, especially the steel drum and keyboards. Some students who are usually quiet became more engaged and expressive, smiling, tapping rhythms, and even taking turns with their peers. The ukulele has been especially helpful for practicing fine motor skills and coordination. It has been wonderful to see students connect with the materials in ways that support both their learning and social development.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we plan to continue incorporating these resources into our daily routines. Students will work on simple songs, rhythm patterns, and group activities that encourage collaboration and communication. We will also connect our music lessons to our career exploration unit by discussing jobs related to music and performance. Your generosity has opened up new opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and express themselves in meaningful ways. It is a period filled with curiosity, discovery, and rapid development—both academically and personally. The students engaged in workshops and games that allowed them to improve their communication when angry, how to repair broken relationships, budget money, time management, and more. Whether it be games or workshops, the students had fun while learning more about themselves today and it will have an impact on their future in a positive manner. We are using them during music integration time and as part of our social-emotional learning activities. One special classroom moment happened when a student who is usually very reserved volunteered to play the drum during our morning greeting song. The entire class followed the rhythm, and you could see his confidence grow with every beat. We've also used the keyboard to practice letter sounds through music and the ukulele to support group sing-along activities that build communication and listening skills.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the instruments, their faces lit up with excitement. There were wide eyes, big smiles, and lots of happy questions! Many of them had never had the chance to explore real instruments up close. They were eager to take turns, learn how each instrument works, and experiment with different sounds. The hands-on experience has increased engagement, improved focus, and provided a positive outlet for self-expression.\r\n\r\nNext, our students will be working on a classroom music project where they will learn to keep a steady beat, identify rhythm patterns, and collaborate to perform a simple group song. We also plan to incorporate the instruments into literacy lessons by creating songs to help remember sight words and vocabulary. These instruments are not only supporting creativity, but also building confidence, teamwork, and communication skills. For example, in our most recent lesson on a short story called \"Zoo,\" the 6th graders used all of the art supplies to create anchor charts to hang around the room and do a gallery walk! One specific student, who typically struggles from time to time, was so engaged that they wanted to do this again very soon. The energy in my room has improved since the resources arrived, in a positive way that has the students more excited. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are moving into more projects related to Unit 4 of HMH Ed! Now that we have the necessary tools provided by your generosity, they will be building on their writing skills as we complete class projects on the CER structure!
