Having clipboards and outdoor art supplies has made it possible for us to sketch, observe, and create while surrounded by nature. Instead of only looking at photos of plants, trees, and landscapes, students have been able to experience them firsthand and use what they see as inspiration for their artwork.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was immediate when we brought the materials outside for the first time. Students couldn't wait to find the perfect spot to draw, and many noticed details they had never paid attention to before: interesting leaf shapes, textures in tree bark, patterns in flowers, and even the movement of insects. They were engaged, curious, and eager to share their observations with one another.\r\n\r\nThese resources will continue to support lessons focused on observation, texture, line, color, and the elements of art while encouraging students to slow down and appreciate the world around them. We are looking forward to exploring each season outdoors, comparing changes in nature through sketches and artwork, and helping students build both their artistic skills and their connection to the environment.\r\n\r\nThank you for making these meaningful learning experiences possible. Your support has given my students opportunities to learn, create, and explore in ways that simply aren't possible inside the classroom. We are incredibly grateful for your generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1776704701103,"projectUrl":"project/little-artists-in-the-big-outdoors/10194888/","projectTitle":"Little Artists in the Big Outdoors","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sierra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9918678_orig.jpg?crop=2068,2068,x239,y532&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1783366689035","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sierrasirk"},{"teacherId":9918678,"projectId":10167344,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our Girls on the Run team has everything they need to feel supported, cared for, and ready to succeed. The healthy snacks have become an important part of every practice, giving students the energy they need after a full day of school before we head outside to run and participate in our lessons. The care items, like hair ties, bandages, and sunscreen, have also made a real difference by helping us quickly solve the little problems that could otherwise distract students from participating.\r\n\r\nWhen the girls first saw the supplies, they were genuinely excited. Several commented that it felt like someone was thinking about them and wanted them to have what they needed to be successful. Watching them grab a snack, help a teammate find a hair tie, or encourage one another during practice has reinforced that these resources are about so much more than the items themselves; they help create a welcoming environment where every girl feels valued and included.\r\n\r\nAs we continue preparing for our end-of-season 5K, these resources are helping our team stay focused on building confidence, setting goals, and supporting one another. Every practice gives the girls another opportunity to strengthen their running skills while also developing perseverance, teamwork, and self-confidence that will stay with them long after the season ends.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and helping make Girls on the Run a place where every participant can thrive. Your kindness has had a lasting impact on our team, and we are so grateful for your support.","fullyFundedDate":1774477524854,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-confidence-snacks-care-for-gi/10167344/","projectTitle":"Fueling Confidence: Snacks & Care for Girls on the Run","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sierra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9918678_orig.jpg?crop=2068,2068,x239,y532&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1783366689035","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sierrasirk"},{"teacherId":9918678,"projectId":9551063,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, my students and I have transformed our art room into a space overflowing with creativity, cleanliness, and joy. As soon as the boxes arrived, my students were buzzing with excitement, especially when they saw the stacks of fresh mixed-media paper, the giant class pack of pre-sharpened pencils, the bright Crayola washable paints, and the no-spill paint cups and brushes. Several students immediately asked, \"Do we get to use all of this today?\" Their excitement was contagious. We kicked things off with a painting and drawing exploration day where students tested the new paints, practiced blending on the heavyweight paper, and used the new brushes to create bold strokes and textures. The quality of the materials truly elevated their confidence; even students who are normally hesitant jumped right in because they had what they needed.\r\n\r\nThese supplies have already changed the flow of our classroom. The paper towels, sponges, disinfecting wipes, and hand soap have helped us maintain a clean and safe space, allowing us to spend more time creating and less time managing messes or waiting for cleanup. The laminating sheets have been used to preserve student artwork and classroom reference charts, giving students a sense of pride seeing their work protected and displayed. The dough classpack has been especially loved by my younger artists—they've been using it to build shapes, characters, and story scenes during our tactile art centers. The snacks you provided, like Cheez-Its and fruit snacks, have supported students who need a little extra boost during long creative sessions. Every item, big or small, has contributed to helping students feel cared for, supported, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nNext, we will be starting a mixed-media self-portrait unit where students use the paints, pencils, erasers, and paper you provided to explore identity and expression. This will culminate in a laminated display wall so families can see their child's work proudly preserved. Your donations didn't just supply materials; you helped build an environment where students feel inspired, capable, and excited to create every day. We are deeply thankful for the impact you've made in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758291228701,"projectUrl":"project/basic-supplies-for-big-creativity/9551063/","projectTitle":"Basic Supplies for Big Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sierra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9918678_orig.jpg?crop=2068,2068,x239,y532&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1783366689035","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/sierrasirk"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_52921","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":453,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":20,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":58,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":3,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":77.8,"schoolId":52921,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Flower Hill Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Flower Hill Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/montgomery-county-public-schools/flower-hill-elementary-school/52921"}
