We empathized with tragedy of how Bob become a stray in the streets and the loss of his sister. We rejoiced with Bob, when he discovered his sister was alive and he discovered he was uncle. Many of my students were able to make a personal connection to at least one of the characters. \r\n We have just began reading The One and only Ruby. We are broken into small groups this time, so students have more opportunities to read aloud. This seems to be their preferred method of reading, rather than as a whole class.
