Designed as a calm, supportive space, the sensory room will offer students — particularly those with sensory processing challenges or emotional regulation needs — a safe environment to reset, refocus, and manage stress. We anticipate that regular access to this space will help students return to their classrooms feeling more centered and ready to engage in learning, leading to improved behavior, focus, and overall well-being.\r\n\r\n Our staff are also looking forward to the benefits the sensory room will bring. It will serve as a valuable tool in supporting students' individual needs, promoting a more inclusive and empathetic learning environment. Additionally, staff may find opportunities to use the space for brief moments of mindfulness or decompression, which can contribute to better overall mental health and workplace morale. We believe this room will become a key part of our school's approach to fostering a caring, responsive, and supportive community for everyone.","fullyFundedDate":1736952980841,"projectUrl":"project/the-serenity-space-a-sensory-room-for-a/8735003/","projectTitle":"The Serenity Space: A Sensory Room for All","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Krzywicki","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3064362_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1483191154728","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3064362"},{"teacherId":8340083,"projectId":8686037,"letterContent":"This project has given my students opportunities to experience a wide variety of cultures through text. They have been able to compare and contrast and build connections to people and places through different versions of stories. My students have been exposed to new stories that have excited them and motivated them to learn more about the world around them.\r\n\r\nOur chapter books have allowed my students to learn about community, social justice, and how rights of marginalized groups have changed thanks to brave citizens. They have also been able to learn how to build empathy and foster relationships by seeing situations from various perspectives. \r\n\r\nReading in our classroom happens in whole group read alouds, in small groups where we can have open and direct conversation about the events in the texts and how they have changed our world and how we as individuals can help change and improve the lives of our peers and those in our community. We also have opportunities to read books of our choice and at our reading level independently.\r\n\r\nMy students who are reading There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom are really enjoying seeing the world through the eyes of the bully and learning why he acts the way he does and how he feels about himself. My young ladies who are reading Catherine Called Birdy are shocked and dismayed by the treatment and education of girls in the past. They especially like the language that Birdy uses and have started using it themselves in their own conversations-which is delightful, and it is hilarious to hear, \"Corpus Bones!\" in the middle of a kickball game.\r\n\r\nMy students of color have also been very engaged in learning about African Americans who have worked hard to change social norms, and students who are able to make connections to Gilly Hopkins feel like they are not alone, and are excited to read more.","fullyFundedDate":1730733535495,"projectUrl":"project/building-classroom-community-through-lit/8686037/","projectTitle":"Building Classroom Community Through Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Creech","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8340083"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_104940","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1102,"numTeachers":70,"percentFrplEligible":33,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":70,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":88.0,"schoolId":104940,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Falls Lake Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Falls Lake Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/north-carolina-department-of-education/falls-lake-academy/104940"}
