We created a consistent snack routine, and students quickly learned to choose a snack, clean up afterward, and return their attention to learning. One memorable moment occurred during a reading lesson when a student who had been struggling to focus was able to enjoy a snack and then participate enthusiastically in our discussion. It was wonderful to see the difference that having this basic need met made in the student's confidence and engagement.\r\n\r\nWith their basic needs met, my students are better able to focus, participate, and engage in learning. Having a snack available helps them feel comfortable and ready to learn instead of being distracted by hunger. This has supported their participation in reading, math, writing, and classroom discussions.\r\n\r\nAs we continue our current reading and writing project, students are working on identifying key details, discussing their ideas with classmates, and creating written responses about what they have learned. The snack routine helps them stay energized and focused as they complete each step of the project.
