This text allows students to study character development, real world issues and their impacts, as well as new language and vocabulary in English and in Spanish. These are standards based skills as well as skills that help encourage students to WANT to read.\r\n\r\nIn my classroom, reading is done in a number of ways. As a class, I like to choral read which means students follow along with the teacher and repeat the part of the text I read. Sometimes, students volunteer to read pieces of the text. Other times, students are chosen by equity sticks to read. There are also times where students fill in the word I stop on as I read aloud. Many times there are small groups that read together and every day we have a 15 minute silent reading block.\r\n\r\nI have a total of 3 students who are reading Esperanza Rising on their own time and are enjoying the fact that the main character is relatable. They also enjoy that big pieces of the book are in Spanish which is their native language. One of the most memorable moments was creating watercolor art for both our Mother's Day and end-of-year crafts. The students used the new watercolor sets and brushes to design personalized cards and keepsakes, and the results were beautiful. It was heartwarming to see how much thought and care they put into each piece.\r\n\r\nWhen the supplies first arrived, the classroom was buzzing with excitement. The kids were amazed by the variety and quality of the materials—many of them had never used real watercolor sets before. One student said, \"I feel like a real artist!\" These supplies have sparked so much creativity and joy in our classroom. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for helping bring more color, expression, and excitement into our classroom. The students love to gather on the rug to do partner work and share stories. The teacher chair is enjoyed by all of the students as an alternate or preferred seating arrangement. The mobile table is great for checking in with students and providing materials. We purposed the shoe rack to store all of the students headphones for when they go onto their computers.\r\n\r\nAs we have moved into January our my students continue to use the carpet and teacher chair to complete their work and relax when they need it. The shoe rack still continues to hold the students' headphones for easy access.\r\n\r\nThe students love their donations and use them almost everyday.
