Instead of just receiving materials, my third graders took an active role in transforming their learning environment. They were incredibly excited to take charge of the organization, working together to assemble and arrange their new reading space. This project gave them a sense of ownership over their library, and seeing their enthusiasm as they handled every single book was a clear sign of how much they value their literacy environment.\r\n\r\nWe turned the reorganization into a meaningful classroom project. Together, we sorted our entire collection into English, Spanish, and bilingual sections to better support our dual-language goals. Then, the students separated leveled readers from non-leveled books and organized everything by category. This process allowed them to rediscover titles they had overlooked. Now that our collection is displayed on these beautiful, organized shelves, the library is much more attractive and accessible. I've already noticed a significant increase in students \"grabbing\" books during their free time because they can finally see what we have.\r\n\r\nSeeing the students' dedication has inspired me as well. With this new, clear organization, I have made it my personal mission to find the \"ideal book\" for every single one of my students. These shelves have provided the structure we needed to make our classroom library a professional and inviting space where every child can find a story that speaks to them. Thank you for investing in the organization of our bilingual classroom; you have truly changed the way my students interact with books every day.\r\n\r\n¿Qué te parece esta versión? Right now, students are just beginning to learn how to manipulate basic shapes and figures to build simple designs. Even at this early stage, they are excited to see how digital designs can turn into real objects.\r\n\r\nOne of the most meaningful uses of our 3D printer has been creating small prizes that reinforce our school motto of being respectful, responsible, and safe. Students are highly motivated by these rewards because they know they were created right in our classroom. It has helped build a positive classroom culture while also showing students a real-world use of technology.\r\n\r\nWe are also beginning to create simple learning tools, such as fraction kits, so students can have hands-on materials to support their understanding. This makes abstract concepts more concrete and accessible.\r\n\r\nSome students who are still building confidence with traditional academics have shown strong interest in this technology. They enjoy experimenting, trying new ideas, and seeing immediate results from their efforts.\r\n\r\nAs we continue, students will work together to design a class project and attempt to print it. This next step will give them the opportunity to apply what they are learning and experience the full design process from idea to creation.\r\n\r\nThis project is helping my students see that they can be creators, problem-solvers, and designers, even at a young age.","fullyFundedDate":1774370138908,"projectUrl":"project/from-idea-to-object-3d-printing-in-3rd/10152307/","projectTitle":"From Idea to Object: 3D Printing in 3rd Grade STEM","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Amezcua","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8526333_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691647815934","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8526333"},{"teacherId":9226572,"projectId":9610737,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donations. Students are using the iPad to solve math problems, practice writing, and explain their thinking by drawing and annotating directly on the screen. One of our favorite moments was during a math lesson when a student used the Apple Pencil to show their strategy for solving a problem and shared it with the class. It allowed everyone to clearly see the steps and discuss different ways to solve it.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the iPad and Apple Pencil, their excitement was immediate. Many of them were amazed that they could write and draw just like with a pencil, but with the ability to erase, move ideas around, and try again. Even students who are usually hesitant to share their work have been eager to come up and demonstrate their thinking. The technology has helped build confidence and encourages students to take risks while learning.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using the iPad to support our math lessons, small group work, and creative projects.
