'¡La Tiendita de Dolores-Huerta!' shorted to: La Tiendita will always be an exciting place for students to be able to redeem their "plumas," paper acknowledgment they receive for exhibiting positive behaviors, especially if they go out of their way to model healthy choices where there was no expectation to. La Tiendita moves away from ordinary school rewards, like candies, or plastic toys, and toward rewards that engage students in a new skill or provide them an entirely novel experience. Framing rewards away from commodities and towards experiences is our primary goal. By institutionalizing our student store, the Dolores Huerta community will be able to practice their financial literacy and build habits like saving and budgeting early in their education.
