I can't thank you enough for the 3D printer. It is simply amazing. I wish you could see the kids faces while the printer is printing and see what they are able to create.\r\n\r\n3D printing has completely transformed my classroom from a place where students simply complete assignments to a place where they design, test, revise, and create. What started as a tool has become a mindset. The shift toward hands-on creation has significantly increased problem-solving skills and perseverance.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful examples of this growth was our compressed air rocket project. Students didn't just build rockets—they engineered them. They had to think about aerodynamics, weight distribution, and stability. Failure became feedback, and iteration became normal. Students learned that problem-solving isn't about getting it perfect the first time—it's about improving each time.\r\n\r\nWe saw similar growth during our boat project, where students designed and printed boats that had to hold pennies without sinking. This challenge required careful thinking about balance, buoyancy, and structure. Some boats tipped immediately. The excitement in the room when a boat held more pennies than expected was incredible. \r\n\r\n3D printing has also expanded beyond academic projects and into service and connection. We regularly print objects for our study buddies, giving students the opportunity to create something meaningful for someone else. They begin to see their skills as something that can serve a purpose beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nOne of the most special experiences has been connecting with a 3rd grade class in Iowa. Our students printed 3D fidgets and sent them as Valentine's gifts. This project gave our students a real audience. The exchange built excitement, empathy, and collaboration across state lines.\r\n\r\nThis year, our 3D printing club has grown to roughly 83 students. The size of the club shows how much students value the opportunity to create. It has become a space where students explore ideas, experiment with designs, and share knowledge with one another. Students who may not always shine in traditional settings often thrive when given the chance to design and build.\r\n\r\nEven simple projects—like printing vases and flowers for our table groups—have had a meaningful impact. The classroom itself has become a gallery of student creativity.\r\n\r\nOverall, 3D printing has given students the chance to create their world rather than just consume it. They are no longer limited to imagining an idea—they can bring it to life. They print practical tools, creative decorations, problem-solving prototypes, and just plain fun objects. Most importantly, they have learned that they are capable of designing solutions, revising mistakes, and turning ideas into reality. 3D printing has empowered them not just to learn about the world, but to shape it.","fullyFundedDate":1764617239079,"projectUrl":"project/3d-printing-world/9796380/","projectTitle":"3D Printing World","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Robinet","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10005032"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41942","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":601,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":9,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":86,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.3,"schoolId":41942,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Fairmount Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Fairmount Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/jefferson-county-school-district-r-1/fairmount-elementary-school/41942"}
