Our scholars were thrilled when they first saw the colorful multicultural, occupation, animal, and honeybee puppets. They immediately wanted to create voices for the characters, act out stories, and talk with one another through imaginative play.\r\nWe use the puppets during read-alouds, small-group instruction, and learning centers to strengthen oral language, vocabulary, listening comprehension, and confidence in speaking. One special moment occurred when students used the puppets to retell a familiar story and create their own ending. Even some of our quieter scholars eagerly participated and shared their ideas.\r\nThe Chicka Chicka Boom Boom activity tree supports our alphabet instruction by giving students a playful way to identify, name, and match letters. Our next step is for students to use the puppets to create original stories and practice sequencing events, while continuing to use the activity tree to reinforce letter names and sounds. The pencils and dry-erase markers are used daily during small-group instruction to practice letter formation, name writing, number writing, and other early literacy and math skills.\r\nOur next step is to continue building student independence. Scholars will learn to select the materials they need, use them responsibly, and return them to the correct location. The ChompSaw quickly became one of the most exciting tools in our STEM lab. When students first saw the ChompSaw, they were immediately curious about what it was and how it worked. While I tried explaining it beforehand, nothing compared to their reaction once they saw it in action. The precision, ease, and independence it gave them during the building process made them feel like real engineers and inventors. Students in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade were amazed by how easily they could cut cardboard pieces into the exact shapes and dimensions they needed for their prototypes. In fact, they were having so much fun measuring, designing, and cutting that before I knew it, they had gone through nearly all of our cardboard materials just experimenting and creating! Their excitement and curiosity were everything I hoped for with this tool.\r\n\r\nOur students used the ChompSaw across several Project-Based Learning units this semester. Second graders used it while designing cardboard prototypes for bee hotels before transitioning into the wood construction phase of their project. Having the opportunity to physically see and test the size of their structures beforehand helped them think more critically about dimensions and design choices. Third graders used the ChompSaw while building insulated lunchboxes during their heat energy transfer unit. After testing different materials and collecting data, students selected the best materials to either keep food warm or cold. One group discovered that although their box initially lost heat, the temperature later increased again, leading to meaningful discussions about insulation and heat transfer. Our 5th graders used the ChompSaw to create casings and structures for emergency and safety devices powered by circuits and Micro:bits. Students built fans, window alarms, and even a cardboard smart home with a door sensor and alert system that displayed warning messages when someone entered the house.\r\n\r\nAs we close out the 2025–2026 school year, some projects are complete while others are in their final stages, but the creativity sparked by this tool will continue far beyond this semester. My principal visited the STEM lab several times during these builds and shared how excited she is for what our students will create next year. She even joked that she wanted to jump in and start building herself! Thanks to your generosity, we know that the 2026–2027 school year is going to be filled with even more innovative, creative, and mind-blowing student projects. The Micro:bit kits have been especially exciting to our upper elementary students. Fifth graders used them during their electricity and circuits unit to design functioning \"smart homes,\" programming lights, alarms, and other features using inputs and outputs. Second graders even used the Micro:bit as a speedometer in their force and motion unit to measure how fast their cars traveled down ramps. They also benefited from having all the materials they needed to add friction to their ramps and test how surface changes affected the direction and speed of their vehicles. Their experiments sparked so many questions that we often had to pause to let them test \"just one more idea.\"\r\n\r\nThe younger grades have loved the building materials just as much. Students in our autism classes have been eager to work with the air clay and LEGOs, which have given them more ways to express ideas and engage with STEM tasks. \r\n\r\nEven our kindergarteners joined the fun! The styluses have made it much easier for them to create detailed designs on the iPads as they learned to use the drawing tools in Tinkercad. Students saw their drawings transformed into digital and print models. They loved it! Seeing how these materials have brought curiosity, confidence, and creativity into our classroom has been incredibly rewarding. This project helped remove hunger as a barrier to learning and created a sense of care and support for students.
