While our school doesn't currently have a dedicated IT staff and our iPads are still being set up, we got creative so students could begin learning with the LEGO® SPIKE™ kit right away. I started by training one \"tech captain\" on a Chromebook to connect the kit, navigate the app, and model simple code. He then screen-shared to our Promethean board and taught his classmates how to build, test, and debug.\r\n\r\nDuring his live demo, every hand shot up. Students were leaning in, calling out predictions, and cheering when the model finally moved the way they planned. They weren't just \"playing\"—they were troubleshooting, taking turns, and practicing patience. I heard a lot of \"Let's try again!\" and \"Move this block here,\" which is exactly the mindset we want.\r\n\r\nBecause we currently have one kit, groups build, test, and then thoughtfully disassemble so the next team can start fresh, great practice in collaboration, planning, and care for shared materials.\r\n\r\nI'm focused on making sure every student gets true hands-on time with the kit while we continue rotating in small groups. We'll also record short \"how we built it\" videos so families can see each project, add mini-challenges—like making a model move in two different ways or using a sensor to change the code—and I'm working on an additional project for a second SPIKE kit so two groups can build at the same time and more students can participate each day.\r\n\r\nThank you for opening this door for our kids.
