The new Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems bring a special kind of excitement to my Spanish-speaking 1st and 2nd graders. Finding comfort in the familiar characters can serve as a cultural bridge for our English Learners. Gerald and Piggie's friendship is something all our students can now share, enjoy, and laugh over together regardless of language. Seeing children from different backgrounds connect over a book reminds us how powerful and unifying reading can be.\r\n\r\nStudents of all ages have discovered a special fondness for Luna Oscura, a bilingual book about a cute little black kitty who finds her forever home in an unexpected. Much like the Elephant and Piggie books, it has been checked out ever since it's been in circulation and there's always a waitlist. I love that bilingual books allow students to strengthen their skills in both languages while also giving newcomer parents a way to connect with their children at home. These new bilingual and Spanish titles are creating moments of happiness, comfort, and connection that go beyond the classroom. We are truly grateful to have these books in our collection that help bring confidence to our students.","fullyFundedDate":1758748268915,"projectUrl":"project/stories-for-every-student-libros-para-t/9708775/","projectTitle":"Stories for Every Student: Libros para Todos","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zhu","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10256943_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758729908467","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10256943"},{"teacherId":2864331,"projectId":9167212,"letterContent":"We've just started exploring with the watercolor crayons, and it's been an exciting and transformative experience! Our recent projects focused on creating seascapes using color, texture, and blending techniques. Students were able to draw with sharpies and then activate the color with water to create stunning effects. The room was filled with quiet concentration and bursts of \"Whoa!\" as they saw how their drawings transformed into paintings. It's been a beautiful way for them to express themselves and build confidence in their artistic abilities.\r\nThe moment we opened the boxes, their eyes lit up. One student asked, \"We get to use these? Really?\" The unique texture and vivid color of the watercolor crayons immediately captured their attention. For many of them, it was their first time using a medium like this, and they were full of questions and ideas. The excitement in the room was palpable, and they couldn't wait to get started.\r\nNext, we'll be diving into a mixed-media unit where students will combine watercolor crayons with collage and ink to create layered landscape scenes. They'll learn how to build depth, experiment with foreground and background, and refine their composition skills. The versatility of the watercolor crayons is opening up so many possibilities, and it's giving my students the chance to think like real artists.","fullyFundedDate":1750276938701,"projectUrl":"project/underwater-scene-with-watercolor-crayons/9167212/","projectTitle":"Underwater Scene with Watercolor Crayons","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Magdaleno","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2864331"},{"teacherId":1288557,"projectId":9004506,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for funding our literacy project \"Literature Circles\".
