We are using our new storytelling materials during whole-group read-alouds, small-group literacy centers, and even during choice time. One of our favorite activities has been using puppets and story props to retell familiar tales. Students take turns choosing a character, acting out events, and even changing the ending to make their own versions of the story.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their faces absolutely lit up. They were eager to touch everything and ask questions. Students who are usually quiet during lessons have begun volunteering to help retell stories with the props, and several children who are still developing their language skills are using the materials to show what they understand, even when they can't yet find all the words. \r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped us build a strong foundation for early literacy. With these interactive storytelling tools, we are working on sequencing (beginning, middle, and end), vocabulary development, making predictions, and speaking and listening skills. Our next steps include having students create their own simple stories, then use the props to act them out for their classmates. We are also beginning to connect our storytelling time to writing, encouraging students to draw and label pictures about the stories they tell. Your support has given us the tools to make these lessons more engaging, meaningful, and fun.","fullyFundedDate":1766529495633,"projectUrl":"project/interactive-story-telling-in-pre-k/9969706/","projectTitle":"Interactive Story Telling in Pre-K","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10006203_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766356599976","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mswilliamsprek1"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_93290","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":522,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":71,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":50.4,"schoolId":93290,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Egypt Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Egypt Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/tennessee/memphis-shelby-county-schools/egypt-elementary-school/93290"}
