Reading is one of the most important skills for students to acquire in early elementary. Great reading abilities sets the tone for future educational success. Unfortunately many of my wonderful students are struggling readers and therefore did not have a love for reading. I have spent the first few weeks checking out books from the local libraries and purchasing books on my own to expose them to various authors and genres of literature.The spark has been created. I've been overjoyed to see students who on day 1 reported they did not like to read, are now asking for more books to read. Now that my students have happily boarded the reading train, we have encountered some challenges. My students need access to high quality, high interest books. We are very limited with our resources as we are a Title I school. I would love nothing more than to build our classroom library with a multitude of new current colorful, high interest books for them to read and discuss. Learning in our environment is social. Through reading and discussing literature my students will be able to gain perspectives about the world, themselves, and their peers. Your donation will help spark a love of reading and make a lifetime of change. Strong readers are our future. Knowledge is power!
