Because of you, my students now have access to engaging, hands-on math resources that are transforming the way they learn and think about mathematics.\r\n\r\nSince the materials arrived, our classroom has been buzzing with excitement. During Guided Math Stations, students rotate through activities that encourage teamwork, independence, and problem-solving. They especially love playing the Target Math Game, where they build number sense and strengthen their reasoning skills through friendly competition. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students excitedly debate which combination of numbers would reach the target first—it was a perfect example of joyful learning in action!\r\n\r\nWhen the games and activities were first unpacked, my students' faces lit up. They couldn't wait to dive in, and many asked if we could start playing right away. The Math Blast review game has quickly become a class favorite, turning practice into fast-paced fun, while Proof challenges students to think critically and explain their reasoning in creative ways. The Fraction Model Multiplier Activity has been especially powerful, helping students visualize fraction multiplication and finally make sense of concepts that once felt abstract.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue integrating these tools into our Guided Math rotations as we explore new units in multiplication and fractions. Students will use the games to reinforce key skills, collaborate with peers, and track their growth as confident, capable mathematicians.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our students and helping make math come alive in our classroom. Your generosity has not only provided resources—it has inspired enthusiasm, confidence, and a love for learning that will last far beyond this school year.","fullyFundedDate":1756077676600,"projectUrl":"project/math-games-smarter-brains/9619076/","projectTitle":"Math + Games = Smarter Brains!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bendel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9255492_orig.jpg?crop=288,288,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693837175608","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9255492"},{"teacherId":7777552,"projectId":9468072,"letterContent":"The students were so excited with their new supplies! Organizational skills are some of the hardest routines to incorporate and use consistently at this age. \r\nYoung children are exposed to technology early on but rarely are they given the responsibility for caring for it. We've been using them daily to reinforce key math concepts, particularly in problem-solving and number sense. One memorable moment was during a fractions lesson when students used fraction tiles to compare and order fractions. Seeing the relationships between the pieces made abstract concepts much more concrete, and students excitedly explained their reasoning to peers. The manipulatives have also been instrumental in small-group instruction, allowing students to explore mathematical ideas at their own pace.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. Their eyes lit up as they unpacked the fraction tiles, base-ten blocks, and geometric shapes, eager to start exploring. One student exclaimed, \"This is way better than just looking at a worksheet!\" They quickly began experimenting with the pieces, even outside of structured lessons, which showed their enthusiasm for learning math in a more interactive way. The manipulatives have made math more accessible and enjoyable, fostering a deeper understanding and confidence in their skills.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next steps involve incorporating these tools into our upcoming measurement and geometry unit. Students will use the geometric shapes to explore concepts of symmetry, area, and perimeter through hands-on activities. Additionally, we plan to integrate the manipulatives into math centers, allowing students to continue practicing their skills through independent and collaborative exploration. Thanks to these generous donations, our students are not only learning math—they're experiencing it in a way that builds lasting understanding and excitement.","fullyFundedDate":1733239019818,"projectUrl":"project/math-matters-rti-interventions-for-enha/8702363/","projectTitle":"Math Matters: RTI Interventions for Enhancing Learning in Underfunded Districts","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bendel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9255492_orig.jpg?crop=288,288,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693837175608","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9255492"},{"teacherId":9255492,"projectId":8914707,"letterContent":"The new math materials have transformed how my students approach problem-solving and math concepts in the classroom. One of our first projects was exploring fractions through interactive manipulatives and games. Using fraction tiles and visual aids, students collaborated in small groups to solve real-world scenarios, like dividing a recipe or sharing items equally. These hands-on tools made abstract concepts tangible, helping students build a stronger understanding and confidence in their math skills.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their excitement was contagious! Many couldn't wait to explore the colorful tiles, dice, and charts. One student exclaimed, \"This makes math feel like a game!\" It was incredible to see students who previously hesitated to engage in math jump right in with curiosity and enthusiasm. Their reactions showed just how impactful these resources can be in making learning both accessible and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll continue to use these materials to deepen students' understanding of fractions and apply them to other areas, such as decimals and percentages. The next step is a project where students will design their own \"fraction board games,\" integrating math challenges into the gameplay. This will allow them to practice their skills, work collaboratively, and showcase their creativity—all while making math fun and meaningful. The materials have truly opened up new possibilities for learning and exploration in our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1731539258357,"projectUrl":"project/math-magic-engaging-tools-to-boost-stud/8914707/","projectTitle":"Math Magic: Engaging Tools to Boost Student Success in RTI\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bendel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9255492_orig.jpg?crop=288,288,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693837175608","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9255492"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_88558","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":517,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":69,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":72.6,"schoolId":88558,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Edgewood Elementary Steam Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Edgewood Elementary Steam Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/pennsylvania/woodland-hills-school-district/edgewood-primary-school/88558"}
