Students are using them to learn STEM skills such as cause/effect, patterns of motion, and computational thinking as they work with the technical obstacles that can come up using remote controlled flying devices.\r\n\r\nWhen I brought the drones into the STEM classroom, along with soccer nets to keep them safe, you would have thought it was Christmas! The first class that used them had to work out the kinks with me, which meant a little less fly time. You would think this would frustrate them, but they were so proud to have worked it out, and they only had exciting things to say to the other classes about what they would get to do in STEM! \r\n\r\nThis week I use the drones with another five classes, an I know that they will have the same positive and motivating impact on these kids as they did with the last group! Every group will get to use them again, but during that class we will also discuss the careers that use drones and the ethics of using a flying device outside the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1761576674227,"projectUrl":"project/drones-for-stem/9848416/","projectTitle":"Drones for STEM","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Stewart","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp398296_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x81,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1707332614358","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/astewarthistory"},{"teacherId":773163,"projectId":9643249,"letterContent":"Thanks to your incredible generosity, my first graders became true mathematicians this fall! Your donation made it possible for us to create our very own Addition Strategy Academy — a hands-on, engaging experience where students explored different ways to solve addition problems with confidence and creativity.\r\nWith the math tools and materials your gift provided, students were able to see, touch, and build their understanding of numbers. We used ten-frame poppers for making ten, number bonds for part-part-whole relationships, and number lines for counting on and back. These hands-on experiences helped each student find strategies that worked best for them — and made math time something they truly looked forward to!\r\nYour support helped turn an idea into a meaningful, memorable learning adventure. Because of you, my students don't just know their facts — they understand the strategies behind them. \r\nNow that my students have mastered their addition strategies, we're applying the same hands-on approach to subtraction. They're using the same materials to explore how addition and subtraction are related — finding missing parts, solving \"take away\" problems, and explaining how they know their answers make sense. These resources continue to be a key part of our math lessons, helping students build deeper understanding and confidence as they move from counting strategies to true fluency.\r\nThank you for helping us build a strong foundation for math success and a lifelong love of learning!","fullyFundedDate":1758204637464,"projectUrl":"project/active-minds-active-math/9643249/","projectTitle":"Active Minds, Active Math","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hanger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp773163_orig.jpg?crop=2096,2096,x514,y655&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755904872574","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jmetcalf"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_86929","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":772,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":40,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":61,"percentIndigenous":3,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"19.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":77.1,"schoolId":86929,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Bethany Earl Harris Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Bethany Earl Harris Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/oklahoma/bethany-school-district-88/earl-harris-elementary-school/86929"}
