Being at a STEM school, the A in STEAM sometimes gets overlooked so the chance to teach STEAM lessons and help bring to students attention the importance of incorporating the creative mind into the science, technology, engineering and math part of their education. Many scientists use the creative sides of their brains for breakthroughs and even Einstein said \"Imagination is more important than knowledge\" \r\nStudents loved seeing packages of supplies arrive and helped to unpack them and organize them for all the classes. Students were able to make art history come alive with their projects. Students were sooo excited to see the supplies arrive and got to help open boxes and organize supplies while understanding that the supplies were for sharing and therefore the importance of being good stewards of tools and supplies for future classes. \r\n\r\nIn the art history portion of our lessons we were able to dive deep. Rather than learning that Georgia O'Keefe painted giant flowers, so we'll all draw giant flowers, students learned about her in depth- her love of taking things that were small and making them big and important was the essential lesson. Students were then asked to taking something small and make it big so people would notice it and many chose to draw themselves! WIth these supplies, students were able to experience and experiment with several types of printmaking. The glory of printmaking as an artform is you carve a plate one time and then can make multiple copies and students were able to share/trade their artwork with their peers.
