This project helped provide materials essential for my students to work on class assignments for all courses, allowing them to enjoy being students again when using brand-new color pencils and markers. These items will encourage them to work hard at school and foster a love for learning. Students need to work on a variety of school projects and assignments, and having the necessary materials is essential, so they can focus on their class tasks and learning, rather than worrying about obtaining the resources.\r\n\r\nResearch shows that the importance of students having class materials in class cannot be overstated. High-quality instructional materials are essential for student learning and academic success. They provide students with the necessary tools to engage deeply with the content, resulting in improved focus, productivity, and overall academic performance. Access to appropriate school supplies and resources eliminates barriers to learning, allowing students to focus on education rather than the lack of resources. The empowerment of students, especially multilingual learners, fosters a mindset of readiness and capability, which is crucial for their academic success.\r\n\r\nMy students come from different countries, and they were touched when I told them that a person had donated money to cover the costs of all the items listed in this project. They were moved by your generosity and kind heart. Your donation will make a significant difference in their learning and daily lives at school. Your kindness will inspire and motivate them to work hard, do their best in my class, and also be kind to their classmates.","fullyFundedDate":1758229488472,"projectUrl":"project/essential-classroom-resources-for-my-mul/9475567/","projectTitle":"Essential Classroom Resources for my Multilingual Students","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. V. We love the 100 Task Cards Text Evidence because it has a large variety of topics. The readings are interesting and varied, including the mighty blue whale, the voyage of the Titanic, whether it's a meteor or a meteorite, Copernicus, Rosa Parks, the landing on the Hudson River, and more. The passages contain great informational texts, and students need to find text evidence, context clues, main ideas, details, compare and contrast, problem and solutions, cause and effect, fact and opinion, character and setting, among others. We love working with a different one at least two or three times a week, and each one provides great talking topics.\r\n\r\nThe other reading books are great because they provide different topics and activities that I can use with my multilingual students, who are at lower or higher reading levels. It is extremely useful to have a variety of texts because I can provide reading passages about topics, places, and people that my students are interested in reading and learning about in my classes. The variety of activities is helpful because I can tailor my instruction based on the English language proficiency of my students. We plan to work with passages such as Vietnamese Holidays, Abuelita, Melting Pot, Holidays in India, and My Name is Gao Yang. My multilingual students can relate to some of these texts, and we always enjoy learning about other countries and cultures.\r\n\r\nMy students were thrilled when I told them about the generosity of this donor, who spent approximately $250 of her own money to support the project, providing new reading materials for them and my classroom. Their faces lit up with emotion, and they were surprised when I told them that a person from Rock Hill had donated this money to support the project.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your support, generosity, care, and kindness. Students are much more engaged in their reading. When I do reading conferences these are things I noticed before in their selections, the students might have started with a more general or vague opinion about the book they chose for independent reading, perhaps stating something like \"It's good,\" without strong details or connections to the text. Their opinion might not be fully developed or supported by evidence from the book. Now with the new editions to our classroom with the Lit Like Me library, the students offer a detailed opinion that makes connections between the text and their thoughts or experiences. They can explain why they like or dislike certain parts of the book and reference specific moments in the text to support their opinion. This shows significant improvement in their ability to engage with the text and express a thoughtful, informed response. At first, the students might have left out key details or retold the story in a spotty or incomplete manner. Their response could have been more general when answering questions, sometimes needing guidance from me to recall the important elements. Now, the students are able to retell the story with detail and in sequence, including the important elements of the text. They can answer my questions specifically, drawing from the text when needed, indicating they are able to recall and understand the story with more depth. This shows growth in their comprehension and retention skills. Finally and most importantly, students may have been inconsistent about bringing their independent reading books to class, or they might have been making slow progress with their books, possibly due to distraction or lack of time management. Now, the students are consistently prepared with their independent reading books because they see themselves in the literature they read and are making appropriate progress. This suggests they've developed better time management, reading habits, and have fully committed to independent reading. They are more accountable for their reading material, which shows growth in their ability to work independently and consistently over extended periods.","fullyFundedDate":1735495629544,"projectUrl":"project/lit-like-me/8876575/","projectTitle":"Lit Like Me","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Janicke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/228650"},{"teacherId":5204010,"projectId":8848189,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting literacy at my middle school.
