Snack is part of the daily schedule in second grade and in an area with a highly transient population and food insecurity this brought so much happiness to my classroom. This allowed every child the opportunity to choose whether or not to eat a snack daily. \r\n\r\nEvery shipment that came to the school excited them and you could tell they felt loved and cared for in this small part of our day. \r\n\r\nAn anonymous donor made this possible and I'm so grateful. I noticed kids who had access to food at home still brought snacks, often took our school snack and gave their snack from home to anyone who wanted it. They knew people in the community had gotten together to surprise our class but did not know what was coming. \r\n\r\nThe lights arrived first and we drew numbers to see who would open the boxes together. Their faces lit up like it was Christmas! A few days later when the stools arrived they were confused except for one student wise enough to read the box...I told him, \"ssshhhh\" and he kept our secret. The children whose names were drawn excitedly ripped into the packaging and as each figured out the gifts there was hollering and lots of celebration! They love these and we have them in rotation all day. Thankfully some of my friends are better able to stay in their seats already! We are holding a Mother's and Father's Day celebration in our class for them. \r\n\r\nWith your help we were able to purchase some of the items that we needed. We know that our parents will be as excited as we are. We are now currently planning the celebrations. We have sent out the invitations and are currently receiving RSVPs . We will begin decorating next week, making cards, making presents, learning songs, and finalizing our menu.
