We now have some very important intervention tools to help our striving readers gain the phonics skills they need. They love using the magnetic sound tiles to build and read words. Our dry erase boards help us give whole group spelling lessons with visual supports that create word awareness for students and much less work for teachers!\r\n\r\nWith all these great tools are students are sure to make important progress toward proficiency in the new year. We have already begun using your fruit snacks to help us learn to count. We look forward to having a yummy cheese ball counting collection on Halloween. The students in our classrooms stay until 4:15 each and with the late afternoon our 5 and 6 year olds need a pick me up in the afternoon so we are truly grateful for these items. \r\n\r\nNot every child in our room goes home to healthy warm meals so it may be the last thing they eat in the day. Every time they see a yummy snack the students are thrilled. The crunchy or chewy snack can help regulate their system as well. Being able to learn through playing games creates so much motivation for children. The connect 4 game is known for building students numeracy. Trouble teaches numbers and counting. Candy land helps us learn to take turns and cope with disappointment. Children are so much happier when they can engage in learning in a way that allows them to be social and these games give them just that. \r\n\r\nBefore we got this gift our games were falling apart and missing pieces. There were some games that were simply beyond repair. We look forward using them for indoor recess and workshop times. Our students have jumped right into the art center and create pictures of themselves and their friends. They have clean, dry clothes and they can finish out their school day.
