Instead of simply reading about microbiology, my biology and biomedical science students are now actively growing and studying bacterial cultures—just like real scientists.\r\n\r\nStudents recently investigated microbial \"hot spots\" around our school, collecting samples and observing bacterial growth over time. With the incubator maintaining consistent conditions, they were able to gather reliable data, compare results, and draw meaningful conclusions about where microbes thrive. The excitement in the classroom has been incredible—students are genuinely curious, asking deeper questions, and taking ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nIn our more advanced Biomedical Innovations labs, students are using the incubator as part of a bacterial transformation \"super-bug\" activity. They are exploring how bacteria can be modified, connecting their work to real-world topics like antibiotic resistance and genetic engineering. These are complex concepts, and having the proper equipment allows students to truly understand them through hands-on experience.\r\n\r\nYour support has given students access to authentic lab tools and experiences that would not be possible otherwise. It has allowed me to have a lot of engagement in my activities and games in all classes because they know there is a good prize at the end if they win. Not only that, but the markers and magnetic poster paper has allowed me to create word walls in my classroom to provide support/scaffolding when learning new and/or extra vocab. This is a great resource that we use every class, especially in my Spanish 1 classes. In addition, the scissors helped my students in a Heritage Spanish class where they were completing a project about different musicians. This made conversations feel more natural and collaborative rather than rigid or forced. Comfortable seating also allowed students to stay focused longer during reading and writing tasks, reducing restlessness and improving overall participation. The donated chairs allowed students to move freely between workstations, collaborate on projects, and position themselves comfortably for detailed work. It also made the room feel more professional, like a real studio, which encouraged students to take greater pride in their work and treat the space with respect.\r\n\r\nSomething as simple as chairs ended up shaping how students interacted, learned, and expressed themselves—showing that small changes in the physical environment can have a big impact on education.","fullyFundedDate":1768099359088,"projectUrl":"project/snack-and-cozy-corner-fuel-for-focus-an/9988328/","projectTitle":"Snack and Cozy Corner: Fuel for Focus and Comfort","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dixon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9641334_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y179&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723230188947","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9641334"},{"teacherId":8127554,"projectId":10015174,"letterContent":"The materials from this project made an immediate and meaningful impact on my classroom. In one recent project, students created visual presentations to represent complex concepts we were studying. Instead of simply writing answers, they designed posters that combined artwork, color-coding, and organization to demonstrate their thinking. One student who typically struggles to participate in class became fully engaged, carefully designing a poster that showed both creativity and deep understanding. That excitement quickly turned into focus and pride as they began using the materials to create high-quality work.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are continuing to incorporate these resources into ongoing projects.
