Your contribution helped us acquire two very large raised beds that the kids help build. They had fun constructing it together filling it with dirt and planting seats. Overtime the kids have grown food that they can actually taste. This includes broccoli, cabbage, beets. Carrots, lettuce, and so much more. Our kids have also learned about taking care of things on a regular base and having patients to watch them grow. We have also talked about nutrition and the importance of eating healthy. We incorporated this into our writing and reading assignments as well as science and math. The sensory room has had a profound impact on my students, offering them a calming space where they can regulate their emotions and focus better. For many, it serves as a safe haven, helping to reduce feelings of anxiety, stress, or overstimulation. By providing a variety of sensory tools and activities, the room allows students to engage with their environment in a way that meets their individual needs. Whether it's through tactile objects, calming lights, or soothing sounds, the room encourages self-regulation and promotes a sense of control, which can be especially helpful for students with sensory processing challenges.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the sensory room has fostered improved social and emotional development among my students. It has become a place where they can take breaks when needed, which in turn allows them to return to the classroom environment with greater focus and a more positive attitude. Over time, the room has also promoted greater awareness of emotional self-care and coping strategies. Students are learning to recognize their emotional states and take proactive steps to manage them, whether it's through deep breathing exercises or engaging with specific sensory tools that help them feel grounded. This has ultimately led to increased participation, better behavior, and more meaningful engagement with their learning.","fullyFundedDate":1733242153992,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-room-and-therapy-supplies/8956590/","projectTitle":"Sensory Room and Therapy Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lyons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9843922"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61248","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":425,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":27,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":75,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":17,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":77.7,"schoolId":61248,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Desert Mountain School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Desert Mountain School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/deer-valley-unified-school-district/desert-mountain-school/61248"}
