My dancers were so excited to see the supplies arrive because they know that being a great dancer is about more than learning choreography—it is about being prepared, taking care of one another, and taking pride in how we represent our school. Students are using the hair ties, bobby pins, and hair nets to secure their hair for rehearsals and performances, while the performance socks help them feel as a unified team for their hip hop routine. The cleaning supplies are also helping us keep our studio clean and ready for movement every day. These may seem like small resources, but they make a huge difference when you have a classroom of 125 dancers preparing to perform!\r\n\r\nOur next step is putting these resources into action as we continue preparing for performances throughout the school year. Students are learning that preparation is part of performance, from having their hair secured and their dancewear ready to keeping our shared space clean and taking care of the materials we use. These resources allow every student to come prepared and feel confident, regardless of what they may have access to at home. I am so grateful that our donors chose to invest in my dancers and help create a classroom where students can learn, grow, support one another, and truly shine on stage. My students are using the composition notebooks, labels, and colored paper almost every day to create a resource that is completely their own. We have organized our notebooks into sections for vocabulary, grammar, reading notes, and novels, and students add new materials as we learn. The colored paper allows us to create graphic organizers and reference pages that make important skills easy to find and review throughout the year.\r\n\r\nWhen students first received their notebooks and saw all of the materials we would be using, they were genuinely excited to jump in and start using them. One of my favorite moments was watching them learn to organize their notebooks and immediately begin treating them as something they were proud of rather than just another school notebook. Even students who don't always get excited about taking notes have enjoyed the hands-on aspect of cutting, arranging, highlighting, and building their pages.\r\n\r\nRight now, students are continuing to add vocabulary, grammar concepts, reading strategies, and notes from the literature we are studying in class. As we move through the year, these notebooks will continue to grow alongside them and become an important reference tool for assignments, assessments, and writing. So far students at all levels have used the iPad for various activities that they otherwise would not have been able to do without it. \r\nI have a student who had severe burns on her hands and could not participate in a ceramics lesson. She was able to create a wholly original piece using a pottery app and follow along with each step of the process, completing each requirement that was expected of the whole class. \r\nAnother student had an allergic reaction to our oil pastels. He was able to use two different apps to complete an original zentangle design and use his chosen color scheme to complete the piece.\r\nLastly, I have a student who is color blind. He has been using the app regularly to choose colors that would make his pieces more realistic and has been able to show others what he sees.
