Our students had the opportunity to create end-of-the-year royal self-portraits using a variety of mixed materials, including metallic golden crowns and fancy jewels. They experimented with fresh new paint palettes and oil pastel kits, exploring color, texture, and different artistic techniques while proudly creating artwork that reflected their personalities and imaginations. Students also used the tempera paint sticks to create colorful posters for our end-of-the-year celebrations, giving them another exciting way to share their creativity with our school community.\r\n\r\nThese materials gave our students the freedom to experiment, take creative risks, and experience the pride that comes from making something themselves. Teachers are especially excited to have these supplies organized into ready-to-go table group kits, making it easier to jump into art projects without spending valuable instructional time gathering and organizing materials. Having everything prepared and accessible will allow us to provide more frequent, hands-on creative experiences throughout the year.\r\n\r\nAlthough we received these materials toward the end of the school year, their impact will last well beyond those final weeks. Our grade-level teams are excited to continue using these supplies with our incoming classes this year, giving a whole new group of young artists the opportunity to explore, create, and build confidence through art. We are so grateful for the chance to fill our classrooms with color, imagination, and the joyful reminder that every child has something wonderful to create!","fullyFundedDate":1779468916848,"projectUrl":"project/art-portunity-in-every-classroom-with-pa/10250545/","projectTitle":"Art-portunity in Every Classroom with Paints, Pastels, and More","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sebastian","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10462443_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1773642987239","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-sebastian-del-rio-elementary"},{"teacherId":10462443,"projectId":10246050,"letterContent":"I have worked hard to build a classroom community where students feel comfortable taking risks, trying something new, making mistakes, and trying again. This project has helped me strengthen that culture while creating even more opportunities for students across our school to learn by doing, work together, and think like engineers!\r\n\r\nThe STEM bins have strengthened that culture by giving students tangible tools to turn their ideas into something real. Students have loved using the science trays to work with partners, organize their materials, and conduct hands-on experiments. The dinosaur building kits brought so much joy and excitement while also encouraging students to carefully follow directions and practice using real engineering skills. Students used plastic drills and screwdrivers to connect the dinosaurs' many parts, building both their creations and their confidence along the way. Brain Flakes provided a welcome challenge that encouraged students to think creatively, problem-solve, and keep trying different designs. The pixel art kits were especially successful cooperative projects, with students working together, sharing ideas, and celebrating what they created as a team. The Squirrel Maze Builder challenged students in a way that came with a great reward, and I was often called over to watch as students proudly demonstrated how their newest maze design allowed Squeaky the Squirrel to successfully deliver his acorn!\r\n\r\nI am incredibly proud of what students were able to create in such a short time, especially with their first exposure to these new STEM materials coming toward the end of the school year. I watched students eagerly share materials, celebrate each other's creations, and encourage classmates to \"try it another way.\" Most importantly, these tools helped students recognize what they are individually capable of when they are given the opportunity, materials, and encouragement to take a risk.\r\n\r\nThese experiences are helping us build a school-wide culture of curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and perseverance. I am especially excited to see the impact grow throughout many classrooms during the new school year as more students have the opportunity to use these materials, build together, take risks, and discover just how much they are capable of creating.","fullyFundedDate":1778416327193,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-future-engineers-school-wide/10246050/","projectTitle":"Empowering Future Engineers: School-Wide STEM Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sebastian","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10462443_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1773642987239","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-sebastian-del-rio-elementary"},{"teacherId":10462443,"projectId":10251258,"letterContent":"Even though these materials arrived toward the end of the school year, I instantly saw how valuable they could be! Students were excited to have concrete tools they could choose from when they needed to calm their bodies, manage frustration, or refocus on learning.\r\n\r\nI am especially grateful that these resources will now be part of my classroom as I welcome a new group of first graders. Having these tools available from the beginning of the school year will allow me to intentionally teach students how to use them, practice coping strategies together, and build a classroom culture where asking for a break, using a calming strategy, and making a positive choice are all viewed as normal parts of learning and growing.\r\n\r\nI am excited to see how these resources will support my incoming students throughout the entire school year and help them develop greater independence, confidence, and ownership of their emotions and choices. Students have become more eager to participate in reading groups and more confident in practicing their phonics skills. The stuffed characters have been a particular favorite, as they make the stories come alive and give students something fun and memorable to connect with as they read. The decodable books, word-building activities, and listening tools have made practicing important reading skills feel more like an adventure than work.\r\n\r\nI have also loved seeing the learning continue at home. Students were genuinely excited to take their literacy games home to play with their families over summer break. They couldn't wait to share the games and show their families what they had learned. These simple activities created opportunities for families to practice reading skills together while laughing, playing, and spending time together.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, it is incredibly rewarding to see children become proud of themselves as readers. I am so grateful to the DonorsChoose supporters who made this possible. Your generosity has made literacy more joyful, engaging, and meaningful for our youngest learners, and has helped promote a group of confident lifelong readers.","fullyFundedDate":1778042483227,"projectUrl":"project/adventures-in-the-science-of-reading-ch/10241629/","projectTitle":"Adventures in the Science of Reading: Characters, Phonics, and Games","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sebastian","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10462443_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1773642987239","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-sebastian-del-rio-elementary"},{"teacherId":10462443,"projectId":10158691,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom reading passion-project! Their faces lit up with joy as they explored the new resources, and the excitement throughout our classroom was unforgettable. From the very beginning, they understood that these materials were something special, and they immediately embraced the opportunity to use them in their learning.\r\n\r\nWith these new tools, my students now have the resources they need to grow toward their individual phonics, reading, and writing goals during both targeted small-group instruction and whole-group lessons.
